In the recent thread by Mirror Image, Forum members were asked to name their five favorite guitarists.

With an eye towards making a poll of the top 25 vote-getters, I went through and tallied up the votes to get a top 25.

Of course, when I got to page 11, I saw that Standoffish had already done his, so I took his top 26, and went through the rest of the thread to make sure some dark horse didn't jump into one of the final spots.

Then, since Hendrix had such a massive lead, I decided to just give him the crown and try to find out who was the second favorite.

For those who truly can't decide, I allowed up to two votes, but please don't feel the need to vote for more than one if you truly have a single favorite.

In terms of favorites? Brian May and Steve Hackett. And I like both more than Hendrix, who is inarguably a guitar master and legend, but not a personal favorite of mine.

Richard Thompson is so versatile. Neil Young is ferocious. They are my two. Pete Townshend and Peter Green to follow. Clapton's career has been uneven but he's still a great player..

Zappa for me. I love loads of others on the list but Zappa stands out as one, like Jimi, who makes me say "Whaaaaaat?"

Marr & Richards for me. I just love their style and just how incredibly important what they play is to the song, which is to be expected since their both 1/2 of the songwriting partnership in their own respective groups. They just fill up space so beautifully and shine even when they dont have to

I went with Gilmour and Clapton, but I could have easily picked half the list.

In a relatively short career, his playing could evoke, emulate, and express such a wide range of emotions; just a few:

elation, impatience, rage, frustration, love, and tenderness

  21. Outside in the cold with Andy Latimer.

I would have made room for both by bumping Garcia and Ace.
