David and Brian, both far and away above Hendrix.
Very happy to see "my" David leading. You guys in SHF have good taste ;)

  4. I just love Larry Correll especially Lady Coryell. That track from his second album is just the incredible ice cream sundae on the brain. Picking only three is somewhat arbitrary. It' depends on those things that matter most to someone. That's why I like Chuck Berry. I then think of Waiting for Benny by Charlie Christian. I love that track. I then think of Grant Green, my very favorite jazz guitarist. He made loads of terrific albums. John McLaughlin and Paco De Lucia too were phenomenal. For me: Berry and Green. I can narrow it down to these two guys.

    Great choices all.

And yes, Lady Coryell- what a great album. Released 50 years ago this year and still a favorite!

Eddie van Halen .....after Hendrix he is the most influential rock guitarist there ever was .

I’m not the only one who got me started to play rock guitar because of him . He had such a great impact on the rock guitar in so many ways that it ‘s impossible to underestimate him ....

That being said.....he’s also my favoritebecause hecould also compose great rock songs and not every great guitar player can do that also .....but there are more, for sure

Surprised Page is number three. He got a great guitar sound in the studio for the first LZ records, but never impressed me as a player at all. Not very emotional, not even very technically skilled. A good player to imitate for the aspiring guitarist I guess, that might be it. Whereas some of these guys are hard to emulate.

That was such a difficult choice, I went Peter Green and Steve Hackett though only by a whisker over Page and Gilmour. In an alternate timeline where laziness and powder problems had not took their toll I would have loved John Squire to be up there.

Since this thread seems to have been revived, I guess it's time for another post referring all complaints to the original post, which explains that this poll is derived from the answers in another thread, in which members named their top 5 guitarists. In that thread as it stood at the time, Hendrix was mentioned more than twice as much as anyone else.

Due to an error in tabulation, Ace Frehley made it onto this poll instead of Rory Gallagher.

Your favorite guitarist not in the poll is missing because he (or she, evidently) was not named by enough people in the 'five favorite guitarists' thread.

I briefly thought about going through that thread again and doing an updated poll, but that only lasted a couple of minutes last night.

I think I've already said in this thread, something like a '25-50' would probably have made for a more interesting discussion (though I suspect most would still not bother to read the OP, and it would be full of comments like 'no Richard Thompson?' etc.)
