"Babaji" was another fake. One more to go today. Vote your next weakest link. Discussion question: Have you seen Supertramp live.......and if so, how many Even in the Quietest Moments... songs have you seen played? (Roger Hodgson concerts count too) Help us to find it before we lose it................. Babaji (Round 2) Lover Boy (Round 1)
After relistening to the album this morning I realized that my vote for Downstream yesterday was unfortunate and am glad it is still hanging on. Today I vote for From Now On. I have never seen them live.
Downstream. Still. And the odds are looking better that I'm going to be stuck having to vote between two of the three songs which I think are solid. That's going to be a difficult choice.
Crisis? What Crisis? tour too soon for this album. https://www.concertarchives.org/concerts/supertramp-bim Supertramp was the first concert for me that did not sound entirely live. Weakest Link: Supertramp "Crime of the Century" - Round Three
I love "Give A Little Bit", but it has a different sound to most of the album. "Downstream" seems to be going next, but it's one of my favorites. Never saw them live.
For those interested, I saw this documentary just last night. It was very enlightening The title is deceptive. It's a rundown of ALL their albums and their history in general:
I saw them live at the Moore Egyptian Theater in downtown Seattle after Crime of the Century was released. That is still one of my favorite albums of all time. I was getting into being a serious audiophile at that time and also sold hi-fi. I sold a fair amount of high end systems using the song, "Crime of the Century". The dynamic range and deep bass was awesome. That said, the long instrumental at the end does "drag" after you've listened to it a few hundred times.
Downstream Sadly never had a chance to see them. I really enjoy the Paris concert video, and I had a solo kind of Roger Hodgson DVD, with an occasional sax player, and that was really good too
Voting off Give A Little Bit. I've seen Supertramp twice (without Hodgson) and Roger Hodgson four times. I don't remember what was played at each show, but I remember Give A Little Bit, From Now On and Fool's Overture for sure. Fool's Overture comes into its own when played live, it's a killer, much more impact than on the studio record.
DQ: I did not see Supertramp live. I'm not sure I ever had the opportunity--I don't remember hearing of them being anywhere in the Arkansas area and me turning down a chance to see them. JcS
Downstream is such a beautiful song, one of the very few that's a total solo performance in the Supertramp catalog. It's a good example of "less is more" and of how much atmosphere you can conjure up with just piano and voice.
