Guess Scorcese has made the best critically acclaimed films. Spielberg or De Palma made the most commercial films.

Maybe it should be "Which director is your favorite of these three?"

Otherwise it doesn't fuel conversation and discussion as much as talk around who "really" belongs in the top three and who doesn't, ad infinitum.

All 3 have made some fantastic movies. For me, though, Scorsese has the least number of duds on his CV, compared to the other two - both of whom have made some real dreck along with some real works of genius.

None of them are as good as their reputations, at least in my opinion.

Of these, I'll go with Sir David Lean.

  7. Daniel Plainview

    Daniel Plainview God's Lonely Man

    Francis Ford Coppola

Of the three listed, I'll have to pick Spielberg. Jaws, Indy Jones, Jurassic Park, Schindler List... . Of course, he's made plenty of crap as well.

Other than Goodfellas I rewatch more films from Alexander Payne and Yorgos Lanthimos than I do these 3.

I have to go with ScorSese. Despite some turkeys, he’s produced a higher caliber of movies the past 50 years.

Now, do a poll that’s strictly 1970-1990 and you’ll get a very different answer from me! ;)

  15. They all made very different styled films each showing a mastery of cinema.

Prefer the likes of Fassbinder, Tarkovsky, Kurosawa, Bergman, Jarmusch, Lynch and Greenaway, to name just a few, but of the three in the poll, Scorsese gets my vote (easily)

To me Brian De Palma films are guilty pleasures, but hardly "best films".

You put DePalma on the list instead of Kubrick?
