Excuse me, when did you see The Monkees live on stage for the first time:
    in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, .... ?

See The Monkees Tours and also the 1960s
and North America Tour and here.

Terrible. Speaker system wasn't properly set up, couldn't hear most of it (from what I could hear, it sucked) and it was after a soccer game (watch the game and concert on same cheap ticket). A total embarrassment. Davy was cool afterwards when he ran to the audience for people to see him up close.

Saw them again with the 2013 A Midsummer's Night with the Monkees. The difference was astounding. Much bigger budget and it showed. A great concert. Lots of fun and NESMITH was there. And I think it was one of the first concerts where he sang "Door into Summer." Plus, they were singing a lot of deep cuts, which I love. There were some funny moments, good music, the Monkees were in a good mood, the audience sang along at the end. A perfect, dream Monkees concert (yeah, Davy wasn't there, but from what I've heard on Youtube, I didn't care much for the Vegas-y-sound Davy brought to concert just a couple of years earlier anyway). Around this same timeframe, I also saw Nesmith on his "Movies of the Mind" solo tour. I never expected in my life to see Nesmith in person, so to see him twice in such a short timespan was special to me. AND he released a CD of that tour.

Poplar Creek in 1986. Have the, uh, gray area CD of it too. Cool to have a CD of a show I attended. But I will add, not that it was a bad show (it was essentially the 1986 edition of the Happy Together Tour, but without the Turtles) but every tour I saw after that was better, making the 1986 show seem disappointing by comparison.

I saw Dolenz and Jones together in 1977 (backed by The Laughing Dogs), The Monkees (Dolenz, Jones, Tork) in 1987, The Monkees (Dolenz, Nesmith, Tork) in 2013. Along the way I saw Jones' act a couple of times and Nesmith's once.

I saw them on January 22, 1967 at the Cow Palace, in San Francisco, California. :)
I was 8 years old and my mother took my brother and I (my father somehow got us tickets). All any of us remember is the constant flashing from the cameras light bulbs and the continuous screaming of the girls. :pineapple:
This was my first rock concert.

One of my craziest concert experiences happened in 1996. I saw the Monkees on their 30th Anniversary tour on a Friday night and the next night I saw the Sex Pistols on their reunion tour. What was surprising to me was that they played a song in common.

Saw Davy and Mickey in 1976 when they toured with Boyce and Hart - got to share the stage with them ( and meet them) at Disneyland, where they performed on the Small World stage during the summer I was
playing in the Disneyland College show band - I remember playing our show , and looking over to see Mickey on the side of the stage watching me play the drums - a little unnerving at the time - I actually started playing drums because of the Monkees , so very cool to
have him there - I also remember wondering how he was going to play since his arm was in a cast - didn't realize then that they had a backing band...

2011 at the Albert Hall. A miserable experience as I’d decided that day to split up with my girlfriend (who was with me), so felt a bit like a fraud having a supposedly great time.

Still, they did all of Head and Davy died less than a year later, so it was worthwhile in the grand scheme of things.

  24. I should add that Mike Nesmith is, by very far, my fave member & that getting to them on the tour with Mike coming back (right after Davey's death) was really seeing The Monkees for me... seeing them without Mike in the 80's was terrific, but to say it was missing something, is quite an understatement... it was missing the best & most important component... seeing them without Davey was regrettable, but it felt waaaaaaaay more like seeing The Monkees with Mike there...
