Page is the most important guitar player to me: "normal" tecnique, but tons of vision, songwriting, charm, penetrance, personality
After him, Jeff Beck: no songwriting, no structuring but astronomic touch, tone, note founding
My favorite guitarist in terms of showmanship, or better to say "blow-away" effect, is the late Ollie Halsall (Patto, Tempest, Boxer, Ayers). A true Epiphany have seen him (two times, with Tempest).

I picked Jeff Beck ... Beck walks a line between very technically able and still having the ability to play in a rough and ready non-technical manor. He has played in rock and roll bands, hard rock bands (some believing that the jeff beck group were the original heavy band) jazz and fusion bands .... he's done pop singles and generally just plays something nobody else can.

Personally I think the poll would have been better with multiple choices, because folks have a tendency to pick their favourite band ... so Page will almost certainly win on this forum.

Not much hard rock. I'm missing

    Iron Maiden (Murray, Smith)
    Judas Priest (Tipton, Downing)
    Thin Lizzy (Bell, Robertson )

And Will Sergeant from Echo & the Bunnymen.
And Terry Bickers from The House of Love.
And John Squire from The Stone Roses.

If there was fifty Guitar players in the list it still wouldn't be enough.

I didn't vote, but I viewed the result and Led Zeppelin seems to be the favorite guitar rock band on this forum. Now who would have guessed that? ;)

Rory Gallagher. (If other talents were also a consideration, I would vote Jimmy Page.) But Rory had it all, and was a very nice guy too.

Tough choice. I finally chose Jeff Beck because he’s the best all around player. Jazz, rock blues and a little country.

Other personal favorites Richard Thompson, John McLaughln, and Clapton.

Here in the Boston area, no one would ever make the mistake of thinking that the Irish are "British."

I love Zep as much as if not more than the next person, but Eric has given me more visceral thrills with his solos than Jimmy.

Gary Moore was not born in Donegal and raised in Cork, you need to check your reading skills.

  25. I voted Jeff Beck.

Rory Gallagher is spinning in his grave (in IRELAND!).

    Where's Martin Barre, FFS?
