 Neither of those was on Odds & Sods, and both appeared in alt/live versions on 'The Kids Are Alright Soundtrack so, again

But the difference is that Odds & Sods was nearly ALL (bar I'm The Face) previously unreleased material while those albums compiled previously released tracks including non-album singles.

For example if you want to include Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy that would remove:

    I Can't Explain
    Anyway Anyhow Anywhere
    Substitute
    I'm A Boy
    Happy Jack
    Pictures Of Lily
    Magic Bus
    The Seeker

So that's half the list right there.

The unsanctioned US 'Magic Bus' album and '30 Years of Maximum R&B' would take out the rest of the list.

So why did you even respond to the poll if you see it as wholly illegitimate (ie you don't believe they had ANY non-album singles since they all LATER appeared on compilation albums?)

.....and why are you comparing a compilation album full of previously unreleased material to compilation albums full of previously released (mostly single) material?

    I chose:

"Substitute", "I Can't Explain" and "Join Together".

With a little tweaking, "Substitute", would have fit well on "Quadrophenia".

Heaven and Hell should qualify. It would be one of my votes.
Surprised no one else has mentioned this one (unless someone is doing it at the same time as me)

Also: Substitute, Disguises, and Dogs. (I'm not considering Magic Bus and Meaty, Beaty Big and Bouncy as regular albums).

It occurs to me that Disguises was only on an EP, and not really a single.
I'll replace it with Here For More.

I've heard that early stuff so much that it is overly familiar. Hence my inclusion of a couple B-sides.

What song did Bowie cover apart from I Can't Explain and Anyway Anyhow Anywhere?
    Edit: Agreed about Substitute.

    Picture Of Lily

Dogs might be my least favorite Who song.

Don't think the OP says that.
And neither does the poll title.

If that's the game, OK. But that's not how I read these titles.

    Good grief.

What a band. If the songs on the poll were their only recorded output, they would still be in contention for the best band ever.

    mine:
    Can’t Explain
Substitute (the quintessential Who single IMHO)
    Magic Bus
    The Seeker

My top five from this list in order:

    Substitute
    Pictures of Lily
    I'm a Boy
    I Can't Explain
    Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere

    The rest:

    Magic Bus (overplayed and overrated)
Dogs and Call Me Lightning (garbage)
    Let's See Action (mediocre)
Happy Jack, The Seeker, Join Together, and Relay are interchangeable for me for sixth place.

I would add an honorable mention for a few Entwistle b-sides:

    Doctor, Doctor
    Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
    Heaven and Hell

The 60's tracks rule here, three out of four for me.
    "I Can't Explain" (what a debut!)
"Pictures of Lily" (I played this one loud and to death when I got the MBB&B LP as a young lad, I'm sure I drove the parents nuts!)
"Call Me Lightning" (I know most don't rate this highly, but I always loved it. Though the recording always felt more '66 than '68. And there is some great lead playing from Pete here)
"The Seeker" (Though Pete didn't like it much back in the day, they've sure played it a lot over the last few years and is one of their most covered songs)
