The Ballad Of El Goodo hits me in a place where September Gurls didn't exactly hit as hard. Though September Gurls hits me in another place where The Ballad Of El Goodo wasn't as hard either.. if that makes sense. But this definitely goes to #1 Record.

All three are excellent, but they gradually went Ever so slightly downhill from absolute genius to great genius that’s missing Chris Bell’s sheen yet has the ridiculous amazing September Gurls to very depressing genius (that really could’ve used some Chris Bell).

    1. Radio City (my sole pick)
    2. #1 Record
    3. (distant) Third

  10. Brian Kelly

Brian Kelly 1964-73 rock's best decade

It is close between #1 RECORD and RADIO CITY.
I give #1 RECORD the edge because of Chris Bell.
    THIRD is a distant 3rd.

Oh man I've just been listening through these three again during the last couple of days after getting the Line CD compilation. I voted for Radio City and Third, but really No. 1 Record is just as good. No. 1 is a more conventionally satisfying listen, but there are some things going on with melody and arrangements in the second two that are really unusual, so that gives them an edge for me. I mean, you have to have a special gift to make a song like "Kanga Roo" work, but it does. And then Radio City has all that great guitar. One thing's for sure: few artists have a better three-LP run!

Edit: just changed my vote to all three...I just went over and listened to a couple of those ballads at the end of No. 1 Record. Gut punchers.

Third is my favorite. #1 Record is a close second and Radio City is in third place.

Myke Trying Not To Spook The Horse

Radio City, but it has to be the Classic vinyl, or as I've been told, another cut that used the same stampers. Reason ? Jody's drums sound like drums.

    Voted all 3.
Depends on my mood which one I prefer at the moment.
Heard Sister Lovers in the 80s and did not like it at all but when I came back to it in the late 90's.................it hit me like a hammer and I could not understand how I ever felt it was not the equal of #1 or Radio City.

I'd hazard a guess that all Big Star fans have all three of their 70's albums...and love them all.

Nonetheless, I'd rank my preference chronologically. #1 Record = #1 et al.

  24. Originally I voted for all 3... since I adore them all, pretty equally, for different reasons... but seeing as "Third" was in last place, I decided to just cast my vote to even up the scales...

I love them all dearly, but I'll go with:

    Radio City
    Third
    #1

Radio City is just the right weird mix of Memphis soul and 60s pop. It also features incredible drumming throughout. I think Jody was studying with a jazz drummer at the time and it shows.
