The no wish list thing is a head scratcher. Do any of the download sites have one? Acoustic Sounds, I guess.

I made an Amazon wish list to keep track of my future downloads!

Ill be honest, I was trying to find the right thread to talk about the downloaded music....not the players or hardware. This seemed to be the appropriate thread, but it seems half the postings are about having too many threads in wrong places. Let's just talk about the music and leave this be? This site is notorious for this poor search capabilities, don't rant on someone using the "one thread to rule them all" mentality.

Which Neil Young reissue impressed you the most? Thinking of getting Live Rust...one really neat feature of the Pono site is the ability to post threaded comments on each record...great for reviewing material, etc.

I have to admit it's not bad for just starting out. I guess it will be a lot better once they clean up the catalog a little. Again, I would still like the option to just buy a CD-quality download if I want that, versus having to buy the highest resolution available.

People come up with good information, questions, and posts, and it is a shame whey get lost in multiple threads about the same things.

When threads about major new CD and LP reissues come out, the mods usually consolidate the threads.

To be honest, the "Neil Young readies..." thread should be canned, IMO, since Pono, is, well, ready.

This thread for the store, its' content, and any sales, and a new one for general hardware impressions and improvement suggestions for future revisions.

Pono apparently hopes to license the brand to hardware partners, speaker/headphone companies, etc., and so a dedicated hardware thread would seem to make sense as new products are announced.

Agreed on the minor complaints. But Qobuz doesn't have wish list capability, either.

I believe the individual song sales are totally up to the record companies; it's not Pono's doing. Warner, for example, will not allow individual song sales on their hi-rez titles. But most of the standard 16/44 titles allow you to download by song.

I did have a problem trying to complete an order on the site yesterday. It wouldn't let me get past the "agree to terms and conditions" in the download application. It would just freeze after I clicked the "agree" button and do nothing. I was finally able to get past that screen by purchasing through the web browser, then just launch the app after my purchase, but that's definitely a bug in the software.

I prefer Qobuz in many ways, because you don't have to have to install their app to download; you can download in whatever format you want, not just flac; you can pay with Paypal; you have many more search options, even by label. (Pono, you can't even SORT your search by newest release.)

That said, I'm just so grateful that there's finally a place to buy lossless downloads that's available to US customers. I've already got my cart full with another $40 worth of merchandise to download tonight.

Pono is currently offering individual song downloads for hi-res files that aren't available on an individual basis on any of the other American retail sites that I've seen. I'm not sure why HDtracks, Acoustic Sounds, PSM and so forth are not allowing individual downloads but it's clearly a decision being made by the retailer. Pono has chosen to do things differently.

That may be true for some material, but I'm pretty sure Warner is behind the "album only" policy on their hi-rez titles, because Qobuz doesn't allow individual song downloads on their hi-rez Warner titles, either.

oh, I don't dispute that you're right about Warners. as to why the other retailers aren't allowing individual downloads for the non-WB material while Pono is, I'm curious to know what's up there.

I don't know how I am supposed to use Qobuz when they won't do business with folks in the USA.

I'm also not blaming Pono for the lack of single song sales. I am merely stating that I would spend more money if I didn't have to buy complete albums when I don't want the complete album. Record labels need to get over this 1960s pricing model (pay for 11 songs of filler to be granted the privilege of buying the one song you want). That might have made sense when physical production costs had to be factored in, but it makes no sense whatsoever for a label to refuse the $1.99 that I would willingly spend for a song, simply because I am unwilling to spend $14 on the entire album. It's precisely this sort of bad faith predatory pricing that drives people to torrents. The labels have an opportunity to start dealing in good faith. IMO, they should take advantage of that opportunity.

Interesting observations. There is a sizeable amount of Bill Frisell CDs. I"ve never seen any possibilities to purchase some early titles in CD quality flacs. Fingers crossed we shall see some hi-rez titles from him before too long. There are even some releases by Gavin Bryars! Very much commendable. But! CD quality as well.

No King Crimson, no Allan Holdsworth.

Anyway, I see true potential in the store. From now, things are bound to get better only.

Both of those are incredible. Purchased them last night and listened this morning on the way to work and it was the happiest train ride in the long time. I replaced the CD versions of the same albums on my Tera player SD card and was blown away by how much better hires versions sound. Perhaps shouldn't be that surprised since I noticed this with quite a few other albums before but I feel like it's even more obvious in this case.
By the way I'm very happy with Pono prices as well - if they had access to these albums HDTracks would probably charge at least $25 for Rust Never Sleeps and $30+ for Live Rust.
I also purchased Harvest and After the Gold Rush but have not had chance to listen to those yet - maybe tonight on the way back home.

The complete Sound System box is also available in 24/96. I know the individual albums have been available in hi-res, but I believe this is the first time the box set, including the "Sound System Extras" material, is available. But it's $20-$30 cheaper at Qobuz.
