I remember Robin on How I Met Your Mother joking that Bryan Adams was Canada's Bruce Springsteen and I can't help but think of that every time I hear Adams, though they're not really the same, at all.

perhaps you are correct. It was my perception at the time that LK was conveying a Hendrix vibe not so much because of guitar virtuosity but in writing and playing all instruments in an updated (then) style akin to Hendrix style. It was fresh and retro.

On review yeah it was more a hippie vibe than a Hendrix vibe.

Thant's what I thought but I have to admit that LK is in no way a poor man's Hendrix

He definitely wanted to do something Lennonesque (among other stuff). He even co-wrote a song with Sean (who was quite young then) on his second album.
And the lyrics were very hippy. Even has a song called "Flower Child"...Also, there's not much soloing on the first album.

It's a PAIN IN THE NECK to find the original mix of Alan Parsons' Project's first album and NOT the 1987 remix :cussing:
It has always struck me as poor man's Pink Floyd musically. This is the dreaded 87 version but I find the original dry version more Floyd like.

Two great bands that sound nothing alike, at least to my ears.

I prefer The Outlaws' more country approach (they're a top ten band for me) but Skynyrd are marvellous as well.

I think to qualify you have to be absolutely built to resemble another successful or influential act almost exactly.
So Aerosmith taking bits from the Yardbirds, the Stones and Zeppelin - and their influences - really aren't. They're kind of a fusion - and great.

    Greta Van Fleet they aint.

Same with The New York Dolls and the Stones - there's the girl group element played right up, the MC5 proto metal too. They're not the same at all beyond the visual superficialities...

But trying xerox one artist also doesn't necessarily make you bad or worthless, not if it's done with flare and personality - so the Monkees aren't a poor mans anything. They're great.

Respectfully disagree with this one. More country than Skynyrd, surely? If there's a gap between Skynyrd and Poco, then I think the Outlaws quite nicely fit there.

To the OP, I've seen Deacon Blue described as a poor man's Prefab Sprout, which I think probably fits.
Another I've seen is Pineapple Thief as a poor man's Porcupine Tree. I don't know enough Pineapple Thief to know whether this is valid, but from the little I've heard of them can see why this might be so.
Five Star were definitely a low rent Jackson 5/Jacksons, but for all that, I rather liked Five Star, they had some great pop songs.
