Well now with the cold here and the forced air heat on more (and the house very dry), I've had more static issues and more opportunities to test this method and can say it is most impressive. So simple: Just hold the album in one hand and with the igniter in the other hand, hold the trigger while making a single 1-2 second circular pass maybe 3" above the surface of the album, and static is completely eliminated.

I wasn't aware there were rechargeable piezo igniters! I thought they all worked on the pricipal of mechanically stressing a piezo element in order to cause them to produce a spark. Gonna have to check that out, thanks! :righton:

    They're actually called plasma igniters.

Now that there's been an onset of winter are these still successfully eliminating static? I finally started having some serious static the past few days.

Mine does. In fact, I have recently tested this on super-charged vinyl and when circling around the vinyl with the lighter was impressed to see a small hair jump about 2". Nothing touched it, the only thing that happened was that the charge changed.

I've also found that the brushes with goat + Thunderon fibers (as sold by Sleeve City) work a trick at removing static, much better than carbon fiber brushes. Carbon fiber brushes can impart a charge once humidify is low enough. The problem is, both types of brushes do a mediocre job removing dust.

I mostly use a pad (Audio Technica 6012, vintage Discwasher with walnut handle, or cheap $8 velvet pad from Amazon) wetted with uncut alcohol to wipe the album before each play. I simply wipe it five times before each play on a DIY lazy-Susan. This removes any loose detritus, it kills all static, and records treated thusly just continue to quiet, it leaves no residue behind.

I still haven't found any other approach that checks all these boxes.

It really works, and when you're not de-zappifying albums, you can even light a candle (or a joint ) with it lol

I bought this exact model and it did not help at all. I'm curious if anyone else also purchased the same device and had success.

I got the Ronx(?) One the op put up on the first page. It works well. You have to hold the button and go around the album once or twice, a half inch or so above the album

Wow! I can't believe how well this worked.

I just received the lighter from Amazon and tried it on two records just now. Static is gone.

So you use your pad and not the lighter? Is that what you would recommend to someone with a static problem? My cleaning process generally works like a charm, but I don't have a tool for removing static yet.

Yep, my procedure is still primarily using the pad + uncut alcohol before each play. I've found that works best for me.

But it is handy to have the lighter, just another tool in the box.
