gratussi Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans.

I'll go with an obvious choice - Steely Dan - but I'll choose an odd soloist - Walter Becker. His licks on "Pretzel Logic" aren't the fanciest, but they hit the right spot.

    Starts at 1:50

Good gracious! In those first moments, he's all Nigel Tufnel faces and hair.

The choice of notes, the touch, the feeling . . . oh man, I just get shivers.

And the vocals are pretty effing good too.

There are so many outstanding guitar pieces by Jeff Beck. But I'll just post one that is in support of a song, and as fabulous as Rod Stewart is, Beck makes the song outstanding. (This is the official video, and it makes zero sense that it fades before the final notes.)

I like this movie, in all its awfulness.

My favorite bit is the idea that a Memphis black gospel/soul crowd would even remotely entertain Vai's white boy shredding as cool.

Gutrie Govan's solo in Steven Wilson's 'Drive Home' is the best solo I have heard in years. It has everything I look for in a solo - subtlety, dexterity and a power that lifts the song even higher. It starts at around 05:10.

While Hendrix's version is sublime, I've always felt that Stevie Ray took it a step further.
