Nice! Drawn by who?
From "Lover's Story" (Mad Magazine)
Mort Drucker and Larry Siegel
Oh man, I cannot tell you how much I love the original MAD comics. This is Wally Wood right?
Im 65, and when I saw those Wally Wood/Mad parodies as a kid, it was in a reprint issue. Loved the artist and loved what he was goofing on! But the ones that I saw were in B&W, inked with heavy use of ziptone. I know it's crazy, but the page shown upthread just looks completely 'wrong' to me. And for all I know, maybe they were originally presented in color. I prefer the B&W by far!
I recall it by his style but the closer is the Marilyn Monroe-esqe figure in the background. The man knew how to draw cartoon women and he put them in whenever he could!
I appreciate that you "see" them in the form you first saw them. They were originally in colour. I had the MAD comic reprints from the 70s - they were included in the magazine. Later on I bought the individual comic reprints and I've held onto them for all these years.
I find his 'funny' style harder to identify than his classic sci-fi stuff but I was just looking at this one recently and remembered that it's him (and not Will Elder, who would probably be my second guess). As you say, it's usually the background details that make it unmistakably Wood.
