That was some Pilsner Urquell I was sharing before dinner. After we ate I switched to Famous Grouse :)

Here is a full range low power setup I've been playing with. Rethm Saadhana speakers with Lowther drivers being driven with 1.5 watts per channel from a DIY 6DN7 amp. Source is the little box inside the coiled speaker wire, 5.8GHz receiver streaming HiDef files from my server.

    Wasn't Lowthar Superman's nemesis or something? :D

They definitely would look right at home on Krypton.

what an outstanding way to store the LPs- just like the record stores! makes it so easy to view and choose- for years i've been struggling with trying to read the splines while storing them library book style. i love this site!

What's the cartridge? I was expecting an Ortofon 2M Black. :D

The Ortofon 2M Black makes perfect sense! The cartridge here is a Van Den Hul Grasshopper III GLA...

Oh nice! ::bug-eyed smiley with jaw agape:: :D
Way cool gear you've posted pictures of. I've yet to get to hear any of the Ray Samuels gear. It doesn't show up at WA or OR head-fi meets. His gear is on my need to hear list just because I'm a headphone geek.

Whenever you are in Orange County, message me and we will make sure you hear his balanced headphone amplifier ;)

I'd end up more interested in hearing your speakers than headphones. Great speakers > headphones.
One of my motivations for getting out to a meet like RMAF is to get to hear gear like Ray Samuels that doesn't show up at local meets. And to also hear speaker systems that I've never been able to hear before.

Am posting again as I just added another mac to my setup...a MR-71 tube tuner. This now completes my search/collecting... Am going to forgo the MT-5 as I think the VPI Aries 1 is just fine.

Very typical Lowther; magical liquid midrange with exceptional top end detail. Normally these have no bass below 75Hz, but with the addition of the back cabinet that holds a 6" woofer, there is real bass. In the full range world, these are world class. Now having said that, for big speaker big power guys, these are going to appear to be a little thin on sound. Not as rich and dynamic as my other systems, but then they were never meant to be.

I've said it many times before: "there are many roads to audio nirvana. While the ultimate goal is the destination, don't forget to enjoy the ride."

I have the Nighthawk and am very happy with it, as long as I remember to turn it off when I am not listening to records. More than once I had left it on for a few days and I go to play a record and the battery needs to be charged.
