I love the sudden onslaught of gorgeous rooms and systems from Chile! And love that you can alternate between two classics LS3/5a's and Heresy's.
Come on man! You just as bad as @Ntotrar! He blames stuff on his cat…and you are now saying your wife wants a disco light blaming her! Yeah right! Just fessup lil bro! You know you are asking for self for your cool music studio…lol!
Here are some updated pics. I just picked up a pair of what seems to be little heard Shinjitsu speakers. These are his entry level, the Little Hiro. Made in Arizona. I’m very pleased thus far.
No worries, I googled and learned a lot! From what I have gathered, it is completely unrelated and unaffiliated with Stax audio equipment, correct? Stax Electrostatic earspeakers and amplifiers are available now
No glamour images here - just guts 'n wires. Sorry. The top image is the innards of my SET, the bottom image is the dual channel power supply which supplies 2.5 volts DC to each 2A3 output tube. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I just set up a 'new' mono system in my sunroom today. A Wharfedale SFB (sand filled baffle) speaker, a G.E. mono 6L6 amp connected to my Elekit preamp. The Wharfedale is open baffle and I am blown away at the the bass it can put out.
VERY nice. I've used those Aeon caps in a few projects and love the outboard power supply! You have rectifier bridges with that heatsink or individual rectifiers?
The smaller heat sink contains two bridge rectifiers, one for each channel. The large heat sink contains two LM317 voltage regulators (TO-5), one for each channel. The power transformer (originally for a mixing console) has two output windings, one for each channel. The raw DC from the bridges is a bit higher than I would have liked which is why the heat sinks are so large. Oh well, excess heat is kind of the point of SETs. The switches in the lower left-hand corner select either 2.5V or 5V so I can use either 2A3 or 300b tubes.
Throwback picture from 2009, when I was using a spare benchmount HP power supply I had on hand to upgrade my squeezebox 3. It was a great improvement over the stock wall wart. (complete with vibration reducing dust and tape residue)
Thanks! I've modified this amp multiple times over the years, so the wiring has gotten a bit more ragged than I'd like. The latest mod is the selector switch at the bottom middle which sets the negative feedback at either 0dB (none), 8dB or 13dB. I usually listen with no feedback.
