Most do, even the ones that might have a turntable. I doubt those t/ts are in operation the whole time in most of these places. The amount of records they could store is limited as well so i think it's mostly saved for specific times.
Not so much mock ups but I did measure and then drew out my two potential hi-fi rooms out to scale including the furniture and hi-fi systems (I used cut outs) to get a better idea as to how it would fit in each room. It was actually really helpful. But Id have done mock ups if the scale drawings weren't useful enough. It does make it a lot easier to see if something will fit and work in your space.
I was wandering around Louisville last weekend with a friend, and we walked into this place. They had kinda of random stereo equipment behind the bar... and of course the beer was really good... Gravely Brewing was the name of it
Hi. Newly registered, but I’ve been using the forum as an information resource for quite some time. I figured I should pay all you knowledgeable people back with some photos. Ten months ago I moved to Germany from Canada for a 2-year work assignment, so I thought I would take the opportunity to try some different electronics and put a new system together. The speakers followed me over from Canada, but most of the rest I’ve picked up since arriving in Germany. Trying to keep things limited to a reasonably sane budget given that it’s a temporary system... - Audio Note AN-E/LX Hemp speakers - VTA SP-9 preamp with PH12 phono - Primaluna Prologue Four power amp - Linn LP12 (restored by Inspire HiFi: new solid cherry plinth, Cirkus bearing, Hercules PSU, new inner & outer platter, Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. Original top plate and Linn Basik LVX tonearm.) - DIY speaker stands (Ikea cutting boards + limestone bricks. For less than 40 euro they do the job) - Apple Mac Mini (digital source, brought from home) - Musical Fidelity V90-DAC I’m really happy with the sound. If I had to pick some weak points I’d say they are the tonearm and cartridge on the LP12, but in general I think they’re good enough for now. Upon returning to Canada I intend to resume my quest to build a predominately Audio Note system. I’m thinking an M3 will be the first new addition. Also considering Audio Note Kits for the power amp(s). Thanks for looking.
Agree with the weak spots in the current system but if they work then why change what is a temp' set up? Fascinated by those speaker stands, wonder how they would work with Harbeth?
Spartree, that's a gorgeous system. In photo two I can see the Mac but in one and three it's replaced. What are you using to control the Mac and how often do you exchange the gear on that shelf?
The Basik arm and 2M cartridge are well matched, however both represent a limitation in the context of your system (as you point out). You may want to investigate a Linn ITTOK LVII, Ekos or Akito. All would be significant improvements. Best value is probably the ITTOK, and many do not see the need to go any further. All 3 arms will allow you to exploit the virtues of better cartridges. Beautiful system and decor. Enjoy !
The arrangement was in flux for a little while. The Mac and the DAC are now mounted on the rear of the console unit. I wanted more breathing room around the Mac and moving the DAC also allows me to take that middle shelf out to let the SP9 breath when in use. I use Apple’s Remote app on my phone/iPad to control the music playback, but when I need to access the desktop I use Chrome Remote Desktop on the iPad. One of the photos shows a little passive preamp from Tisbury Audio that I was playing with for a little while. Didn’t like it in this system, so that isn’t on the shelf anymore either.
Thank you. And yes, I agree about the tonearm and cart. Actually I have been close to pulling the trigger on an ekos 2 on more than one occasion as there are some nice used examples available over here from time to time. But then I get into an internal debate about whether I will eventually ditch the Linn for an Audio Note TT2 deluxe with outboard PSU.
I go a long time between posts with pics and invariably forget the ‘propah’ way to display images. Apparently inserting a copied Instagram link/URL ain’t it. a little help, please? Bueller?
It doesn't look like you can use images posted on instagram, at least I couldn't figure out how to get them. I did look at you instagram page though, nice.
