I think out of all the receiver's back in the day, my favorite to look at was the Marantz. I preferred their looks to any McIntosh. I still do. I still have yet to see any receiver that I have better liked looks of than the the late 60's early 70's Marantz receiver's.
Very nice! If I may make a suggestion, LS50's benefit substantially from mass-loaded stands, and those wimpy 2-post stands just won't do it. You can expect fuller, tighter, and more expanded bass, better dynamics, and more vivid imaging.
Yikes! Seriously though, those skinny stands won't allow the LS50's to really show what they can do. Even these budget options will make a big improvement; hopefully the cost of shipping to Canada isn't too high.
Here's my current, updated system. Still need to upgrade the cart, trying to decide between the Nagaoka MP-150 and the Soundsmith Otello. I could see a new paint color in your future. Run a dedicated line in there too. You are better off with the stereo in a separate room. You don't want to compete with the television when you want to listen to music instead.
It's been awhile since I posted. I thought I'd share the system that I seem to spend most time listening to lately, the one in my very messy study. This gear is mostly hand me down or trade with friends. (The plastic over the door is to keep out dust from the remodeling going on in the next room.) Nope. They were part of the trade for the 3a's. Wharfedale W70 cabs with non Wharfedale drivers, and KLH Model Fives. All my speakers have been sitting around not getting used since I acquired the 3a's, and around these parts I almost can't give them away. So they might as well be used for something.
Thanks for the input Tullman, I will talk to the electrician about a dedicated circuit for the sound system and some can lights as well. Paint is a must....haha
Depends how your room is wired...could be as simple as moving some wires on your breaker panel....or not.
I’ll provide what’s involved on my end. I think he will run a new wire from the box so the cost will be on the higher side of the scale to have a dedicated line.
Very nice. May I inquire, what are the speaker stands please? When I looked the R3 speakers up I can see them with KEF performance speaker stands that look like these; but these stands appear shorter in height than what I think I'm seeing in the stock photos of KEF performance speaker stands, which measure 25.7" tall. Optical illusion? Do tell.
They are the KEF Reference 1 stands, which are 21" tall. The Ref speakers are a little taller than the R3. They are very nice stands, but KEF charges a premiun for them. So unless you can find a deep discount I would go with the R300 stands. Let us know how it goes!
