love the vibe of your room!! how do the speakers do up against the wall? were they designed for that positioning?
Nothing noticeable. The picture is a touch deceiving. Theyre about 10-12inches off the wall, which is close by a lot of standards, but thy sound great to me sitting where they are.
Nice "Flat". Have not heard it called that in years.....like 30 years...lol! Can you kindly show a close up of the Technics 1210M5G,with the Origin Live tonearm? I believe, in my estimation, those "Origin Live" tonearms are some of the best, tho some like to "Hate" on them with false notions. They also make some very Musical turntables as well.
Yeah, I was afraid somebody was going to call me out for that. What am I supposed to use? Is it okay if I just lightly moisten a paper towel?
Its a nice rig man. Next time you're out shopping at grocery store , Target, Walmat or whatever look for those" Swiffer Dusters". They work great!
Summer is starting to wind down, so last week I tried swapping out my Rega Brio-R and putting my '59 Fisher X-100 back in its place. To my disappointment, it was sounding pretty anemic and 2D, and the volume knob had to be really cranked, so I figured the EL84s were going bad. Damn, I had the JJs in there for not even an entire year! This time I ordered a matched quad of Sovtek EL84M's, which arrived today. I just re-biased the amp and am having a listen now. Aaahhhh.... There's the magic I had been missing...
G - Love the colour....the room....the decor but props especially for the mid-century lamp! .... I have a bit of a thing for mid-century lamps J
Thank you! I love old stuff. I found that lamp at a flea market in Alameda, CA many years ago, for not much money.
YAAAAAAASSSSSSSS !!!!! GOOD for you man !!! PS/Edit: Antique Radio Forums • View topic - Is an 7189 Tube Replaceable With an E84L Tube? **Correction* goes into more details than I care to comprehend, but possibly the Fisher (having come with 7189 tubes) is hard on other varieties that aren't designed for higher than typical voltages? One comment talks about a Scott 222C: "The 222C uses 420V on the output tubes, so 7189s must be used. The Russian 6P14EB is a good substitute - I've used them in a Lafayette receiver at 420V. These are also sold as EL84M - Jim McShane has them at 4 for $49.50 - http://pages.prodigy.net/jimmcshane/tubes.htm" SO maybe the EL84Ms are beefier (being military-grade) and can handle circuits mere mortal EL84s give up the ghost in prematurely. But in any case, VERY glad to read the Fisher is back in service. Enjoy! PPS/Edit: seems like the X-100 uses 390V plate voltage, my old Dyna SCA-35 used 360V. So not as high as the Scott ... but maybe 390V is still tough on JJ or other generic EL84s. Seems like the EL84Ms are the way to go in this baby ...
Keep an eye on those Sovteks for a while. I put a new set in my Fisher KX-90 and after maybe 10 hours of use one of them red-plated. Scared the heck out of me. I still have the other 3 tubes, want'em?
I bought this amp about 4 1/2 years ago, and it was loaded with '80s USSR 'Reflektor' power tubes, and they lasted until last year, when I put in the JJ's. Hopefully these EL84M's will have similar longevity.
