    It would have to be on a separate circuit because refrigerators are notorious for dumping lots of electronic "noise" into whatever circuit they're on. It's a nice idea though . . .

    Those look like the ATC speakers Vegas Dave is lusting after. What amps?

    Surely there is a music player better suited to your system than iTunes?

    They're plugged into the wall so they're the actives. Nice rig. Not jealous at all.

    A mac mini (no fan) with itunes, pure music, and a good dac will match up with many mid-range CDP and higher end servers. No compromise there.

    I don't have a computer based audio system, so I'm basing my comment on those of others whose opinions I trust. Decibel, Amarra and others?

    Very nice setup! Your cabinet looks very much like the one I built myself:

    For a good all over contest I have this month's Stereoplay Test results in front of me (bought yesterday).

    The best SACD Players = BURMESTER 089 & NAIM 555 win 66 points each

    The best tested USB - DAC - Audio Research's DAC/USB and the RESOLUTION Cantata both win 68 points
    the AYRE QB 9 is among the 5 best tested and gets a respectable 66 points.

    So yeah, this AYRE QB 09 DAC is a real good source I guess..

    http://spezial.magnus.de/e-paper/stereoplay/

    Those T+A solitaires won 65 points.
    FOCAL Grande Utopia and two MAGICO M's with 68 points each.

    BTW the B+W MM1 desktop speakers get a respectable 42 points.

    Thanks! Yes, your cabinet looks very similar, even the way the bottom center door opens is the same.

    I may have mentioned that I have a headphone setup for when I want to listen to music while others are watching TV in the room. The setup was in front of the TV, but I moved it off to the side and added some shelves and a comfortable chair.

    Sorry folks, not meaning to hijack this thread, but in the context of these past couple posts...

    This is the first time I have heard of or seen a Nixie Clock. If anyone else here is mystified, then definitely check out this link and be amazed:

    Years ago I had built a Nixie using the Burroughs B7971 tubes, fun stuff.

    Hi Baron, It's actually a model A5 Int amp. I love this thing. 250w/ch and matches up nice with the Logans. Decent phono stage too! :thumbsup:

    furniture update;

    just recently replaced the early/mid-1990's PIONEER rack-stereo cabinet, that i was using to support my PD-M90X CDP and house system accessories,
    with a superior quality late-1980's model, with casters to mach the balance of my system furniture, and a glass door, not present at all on the old cabinet.

    it looks FAR better on the whole, IMHO;

    NEW CABINET;

    this should be the last alteration to my system, outside of the eventual addition of a BRD player and HD monitor,
    as well as possibly the replacement of my current early-1970's ELAC TT with one of PIONEER's finer mid/late-1970's DD models,
    that i can foresee for the indefinite future.

    all of my inferior and unworthy "PIE-IN-THE-EAR" gear has served me smashingly well thus far, and should continue to
    until the day that i can no longer get them serviced.

    all this mass-market "Jap-Crap" has quite dutifully soldiered on the last twenty years, in the hands of who knows how many people
    before reaching my hands, yet, after some minor preventive maintenance from me after first receiving each component,
    they all function at least as good as new, and it is my personal duty and responsibility to keep each and every one of these components
    in top operating form for as long as me and/or a professional tech can possibly maintain them as such.

    after all, regardless of whatever some might have to say out there, these are, without question, fine works of industrial art,
    among the very best that Japan was capable of producing during it's economic golden-age,
    and well deserving of being preserved and remembered...
