I couldn't have said it better myself. My Pioneer SX-1080 receiver and Pioneer HPM-100 speakers are 35 years old and they are still going strong. The term "Jap-Crap" means nothing to me because the Japanese built some damned good stereo equipment in past decades.

MacGyver, not to say your stuff is bad, but Pioneer made better stuff that what you have, and they still do with the TAD line. The TAD stuff is incredible. As a big Pioneer fan, you definitely need to hear it!

Curious as to why your speakers are so high up.. usually tweeters are closer to ear level?

That's the first I've heard 'em. Pretty cool too.

  6. The coolest stereo components are the ones with nixie displays. I wish there were more of them!

Here is one for MacGyver. Just one piece of my buddy's Pioneer obsession.

Now that's impressive. Is he a hobbyist like you that knows how to fix things? I have a good friend with a 9100 integrated that would love to get it fixed...

He is very familiar with things Pioneer but I don't know that he's for hire. Here is his bedroom system with the HPM-200 speakers I sold him.

    I'm impressed.

MacGyver probably fainted, or his jaw is dragging on the ground such that he can't get to the keyboard.

I'm a Sansui guy...My Sansui rig: It doesn't look like much but it took 7 years to put it together.

1987 AU-X901 amp (international model of the Japanese domestic AU-a707i alpha amp, 130 Watts RMS/chnl. Very fine amp, amazing sound quality) 1980 TU-717 audiophile tuner (not shown)
    1980 SR-838 TT (perfect)
1980 Ortofon 'M20FL Super' NOS cart (perfect sound quality)
1980 NOS Sansui Rack GX-100 (looked for over 5 years for this rack...finally)
1980 Sansui's professional Hi-Fidelity black jacketed speaker cables: a beyond extremely rare find.
    1970 SP-2000 speakers
1970 SP-2000 wooded speaker stands (very rare)
1987 One pack of unopened Sansui playing cards. (A very lucky find!)
2010 NAD C-515BEE CD player. Really nice sound. (the only 'not Sansui' item)

    Also
    1970 AS-100 speakers (perfect)
1970 AS-300 speakers (one blow 'impossible to find' W-112 alnico woofer).
    1970 SP-2000 NOS speakers (2nd pair)

Yeah, a silver rack filled with that late 70's silver-faced Pioneer stuff (especially right after the blue fluoroscan meters came out) was what I lusted after 30 years ago. Really beautiful stuff. The TOTL cassette deck I got, but never one of the RTRs.

HPM-100s on top of HPM-200s?! Man talk about overkill...where does he get all the power?

for me, my components ARE among their best products of all time. plus, unlike their PROFESSIONAL TAD products, these components actually LOOK GOOD in a living space...
