I can track records like that with most of the carts I own... ...but, I think that has more to do with the tonearm I'm using rather than the carts themselves.
I have a look-a-like AT VS-245LP. It's a very good cartridge, IMHO. I use it, on and off, with my main table and my SL-M3.
Neato headshell mount that I just set up for my turntable. The SS445E/U lives in the Technics linear tracker, the Realistic has all these options, but the AT450 is the base cart there. Look for a 6 pencil holder on Etsy for the mount. I had it made with 4 holes and had to drill them out a little (hence the sawdust).
Like your cart holder. Here’s mine. I bought it on eBay so it wasn’t cheap but it’s very nice quality and holds the number of shells that I needed.
The first cartridge I ever purchased, a "universal mount" Stanton L 737-E-. Purchased at Best Products in Falls Church, VA circa 1984. It was on sale. It's one of the oldest pieces of audio gear in my house that I purchased myself that I regularly use. Still sounds great! Stylus is a Pfanshiehl 4822-DEE I've posted pics here before but I just got a new Canon 24mm pancake lens and was having some fun with it. I didn't know it could function as a macro lens.
I've had 20 or so cartridges over the last 15 years, this one is hands down my favorite so far, maybe tied with the AT180ML. It's an incredible match with my most recent arm, really glad to have got this pair together.
My AT33PTG/II casts a long shadow over my days*... * v handy for spotting dust on the needle at 50 paces.
Yes it’s incredible and an incredible bargain. After years of using Linn cartridges, which can’t track for toffee, this has been a revelation. It’s not just the superb sound but the fact that LPs, once thought damaged beyond repair, are not after all. The AT33PTG/II plays them back with ease.
I'm not home to post a picture so hopefully you all know what a Sumiko Blackbird looks like Problem is in 33 years all I've used are Sumiko cartridges. Can anyone suggest a different cartridge for me to try "just for fun"? The cartridge would ideally be of a sound quality in the realm of a Blackbird but sound different enough to give me a thrill of rediscovering familiar albums. I wouldn't want to spend more than the cost of a BB either, those are around 12-1300. Used or vintage cart suggestions are fine. The Sumiko's I have were MM or HO MC but my Krell phono pre amp board does have settings for LO MC's. Just more work to swap! My equipment profile is on here but basically VPI Scout 2 3D arm with all the trimmings, Krell solid state amps and Harbeth SHL5+ speakers. Listen mostly to Rock and jazz and then classical. Fishing but thanks!
The new VM540 by Audio Technica is nice. Very detailed, and tracks like a champ. My previous cart was a Denon DL-110, which I would also recommend.
I recommend that before buying a new cartridge, check that the cartridge complies with the specific mass of your tonearm!
Clearaudio, SME and Benz, nice combination! Always loved the Glider, going back to those first elliptical ones. The new ones are very nice, pretty much the same as the Wood, just naked and a couple hundred bucks or so less costly. Easy to align too, with their business sticking out in front like that. Great cartridge, is that the low output version, I can't quite make out the lettering above the gull that says which model?
