George, Nice work buddy! You can add Billy Joel Songs In The Attic 35DP 19 to the list. We recently covered that one in a thread Jamie Tate started. Rick
Thanks Rick. Maybe this is impractical, but I was hoping that folks could simply quote my list, remove the quotes, add any recent finds (like the one you posted above) and then repost the updated list.
I'm highly suspect of the following: Genesis-Genesis(S/T) WG Target and Vertigo 800 series CD's Vangelis: Opera Sauvage (European CD, possibly the same one still in print now) I've checked many many targets and West German (aluminum to center) discs and not a one had PE. I also am doubtful that a currently in print CD has it, particularly one that is not Classical in nature. Can anyone confirm the Vangelis disc? -s1m0n-
I used to have a Marantz CD player that did not decode de-emphasis. During parts of emphasis CDs that had somewhat loud high-frequencies there would be sound dropouts lasting a second or two. I thought the CDs were defective until I played them on a different player at a store. I then returned the Marantz. Store wouldn't take it back, so I just left it there on the counter, walked out and notified my credit card co. who reversed the charge. That was back in the early 1980s.
You can add to the list: Pink Floyd The Final Cut CK 38243 35DP-53 Nena 99 Luftballons EK 39294 35 8P-42 I was shocked that my made in Japan Slade Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply does not have emphasis (it came in a smooth side case too). I'm pretty sure the one I bought back in 1983 did, but I no longer have that one. It's got to be ultra-rare if it exists.
I meant quote me and add your new entries and remove the quotes. That way the next person can quote you and do the same, etc.
I can definitely confirm the Genesis s/t 814 287 (non-Target). Mine is bought in 1986, from Vertigo/PolyGram Germany and has PE (not indicated in the TOC, but in the subchannels). Martin
I was just about to add Nena as well. Is yours a Japanese pressing? Mine is an EK 39294 but the matrix is 1B EK39294 01 C2. No mention of 35 8P-42 anywhere.
Interesting. Mine is US product and though the CD itself doesn't say where it's pressed the booklet says "Disc manufactured in Japan by CBS/Sony, Tokyo, Japan." The tray however says "Now Made In The U.S.A." Perhaps mine is a US pressing that uses the same mastering of the Japanese made disc.
Seems unusual that a US product would have emphasis. Does it have the 12" version of 99 Red Balloons on it? Track 1 would have a playing time of 4:45 if so.
Max Roach - Survivors 1984 Soul Note 121093-2 was a pre-emphasized disc manufactured in Italy by PhonoComp, and could also be added to the list. I also own a Delos compilation of John Eargle recordings called Engineer's Choice (DE-3506)...EAC indicates three of the tracks (out of 22) have PE: 9) Poulenc: Fleurs, from (DE-3029) 10) Popper: Menuetto, from (DE-3065) 16) Rorem: A Quaker Reader, from (DE-3076) I don't own any of the discs linked above, but I assume it's possible that they all have pre-emphasis since the tracks derived from them appear that way on the compilation.
Thanks, good to know. I was beginning to think that no targets had PE. Obviously none of mine do. -s1m0n-
Yes, playing time on track 1 is 4:45. Here's my EAC log in case you want to compare to yours: EAC extraction logfile from 14. I am just now coming up to speed on all this. a) Is there a way to tell how a disc with PE has it encoded? => in the TOC, or in the subchannels? (If it's in the subchannels, then is the flag "carried" along with a ripped version from EAC?) b) And then if I want to rely on iTunes to take care of this while ripping a disc, does iTunes tell you whether it sees the PE flag or not? (I haven't yet tried, but I need to in the next few days.) Thanks !!

Thanks Plan9, glad one person understood what I meant. Seriously, the whole quoting my list and adding new stuff will only work if someone catches us back up again.
