That's the trip, right? He was bored with life until he found his missing puzzle piece. O' the metaphor, given the circumstance of his epiphany!

In comic books, the hero's greatness (or lack thereof) can usually be measured by the greatness of his adversaries. All the great heroes have equally great villains. This season of Preacher, with the introduction of the Saint Of Killers and Herr Star, has definitely taken this show to the next level. For me, the only misstep has been the whole A-face in Hell storyline. I wish they'd either bring him back (but to do what!?), or just leave him there and forget about him (would hardly seem fair though!).

More ups than downs in Season 2.
As with others, yet to see the relevance of the Hell storyline, assume it is being set up for something down the line...

Love preacher! I'm a bit behind on this thread as I didn't know it was here so forgive me for going over old ground but I don't know anyone else who watches it so I have nobody else to talk to about it!

The opening scenes of season two has got to be one of the greatest openers of all time! It had everything, it was funny, exciting, a little twisted and it had the best use of come in Eileen which is a song I usually hate but I kind of can tolerate now! It's the little things like having to siphon gas using and intestine, I was roaring with laughter. Then the casino stuff with the angel dude who can't die (I'm really bad at remembering names!) was brilliant, funny and strangely touching. I was quite gutted when he got the saint of killers to finally off him. That's the other thing though, some of it is surprisingly touching like the back story of tulip and Jesse.

And then there is Cassidy! I love his character! The fact that he's grown in to the most sensitive, most compassionate character is brilliant and now he has "cured" his son, well that is only going to create more great comedy snippets. I laughed a lot when he was telling him to turn the music down and had the door slammed in his face...brilliant stuff! That gorgeous Irish accent is not bad either, always had a thing for a lilting Irish accent!

My only complaint is that I have to wait until Tuesday for a new episode! Whilst it has slowed down a bit at the moment, you just know it's going to get pretty epic over the next few weeks!

What with this, twin peaks and American gods, this year has turned out to be a pretty awesome year for my kind of tv!

What's weird is, I thought, at least according to that last episode of Season One,
that ****-Face would always be 'haunting' Jesse!

    Good point.

I would imagine that A-face's stint in Hell would harden him beyond that of a person serving time in a penitentiary.

My guess is that he comes out of Hell vowing vengeance on Jesse.

That said, A-face's story so far is almost nothing like the comic. That's a little shocking considering the edgy stuff they've already displayed in the TV show. They could have easily pulled off the bits in the comic, making something much better than the Eugene in Hell parts.

But hey, maybe his storyarch will redeem itself.

Could you elaborate on how the comic handled "A-face-in-Hell".....or, would it give away too much?

No, it wouldn't give away too much because Eugene never goes to Hell in the comic. I have no idea what would be a spoiler concerning Eugene anymore.

In the comic his story was better in that Eugene and his pal, "Pubes," made a pact to off themselves like their idol, Kurt Cobain. Pubes blew his brains out with the shotgun, while Eugene botched his own suicide.

Sheriff Root, Eugene's father, rarely spoke to Eugene again, yet like the comic, the TV shows Eugene always seeking his father's approval. When the sheriff confronts Jesse in the comic, Jesse uses the Voice to tell sheriff Root to "Go f*** yourself," which he does. Literally.

The doctors tell Root that they wouldn't be able to surgically re-attach his member, yet given some time his colon should get back to normal.

Arseface vows his revenge on Jesse.

I can't tell the rest of the story, because the show might use bits of the comic in the future.

Cassidy's story is almost exactly the same.

Jesse, on the other hand... Well, in the comic Jesse's dad was a Vietnam war veteran. I like that the show made Jesse's father a preacher, too. What I miss about Jesse from the comic, though, are the imagined conversations that Jesse has with John Wayne. John Wayne, in the comic, was like a second voice in Jesse's head, guiding him on the right path when Jesse's own nature was too extreme.

It makes me wonder if the show had to change the parts with the characters, because they couldn't use John Wayne and Kurt Cobain...at least not to the extent of the comic.

Possibly, though they coulda went the "True Romance"-route; how they had Val Kilmer as 'Elvis'...
But, I assume they never thought the current climate in America would make Hitler relevant....
    What a world!

Okay, so the first scene was probably the most blasphemous take on any religion that has ever been filmed. Can anyone think of anything that comes close?

The funny thing is (har har), not only did I laugh, but the shock value was in the parts that lead up to the big (yet subtle) reveal of who it was, doing who. Which...is actually brilliant, because the reveal had a major point in the show, and the parts leading up to it was just for kicks, even though it made the reveal a bit more potent.

So, now Jesse knows that the game is a lot bigger than he thought...as if a quest for the real god wasn't big enough. Besides one episode this year, this show has been a mighty steam train. Think about where it started this year, and now where it is, and all of the stuff that happened in between. Not many shows can do that, which makes me wonder if they are hyper-compressing the story lines. After all, it was a lot of issues in the comic.

Another job well done. I wonder if there will be any backlash for that first scene.

    MMMMMMmmm....that's good religious satire!
    -Tulip playing Rock Band
    -the 'special-needs' decendent of Christ.
    -CAN
Yup...that was a better episode to me!

    AND... I get the felling that;
it's a good thing that some people are NOT paying notice to this show!
If no one's around to SEE the 'controversy', there's no 'controversy'!

As far as the opening scene, while it certainly could be offensive to some, I also was laughing by the end of it. It's like the writer's are playing poker; "I'll see your Hitler, and raise you a Jesus!";). Gotta wonder what's next as it's obvious the writers hold nothing sacred. A truly outlaw, swingin' for the fences every time, approach to storytelling, LOVE IT!!!

It really does get better and better, many laughs this week. But I'm very interested as to where the pictures the messiah was drawing will lead :)

Lead? I'm not sure. They already missed their opportunity to talk to god, didn't they?

How would anybody recognize god if he was standing right in front of us?

I think it was interesting that Jesse went to a knee in the presence of a mere blood descendant of Jesus, yet when he found out that Humperdoo wasn't what he expected Jesse was repulsed.

    Very curious.

    I think Jesse 'gets it'.....
In the 'next week on..' clips, he seems to go back to that 'room'!

While watching the opening part of the last episode of "Preacher", my wife said it reminded her of the end of "Sausage Party". Seth Rogan strikes again.

The scenes between Herr Starr and Featherstone (or "Flufferman" as he calls her) and Hoover. I love how Featherstone is practically flirting with him, but always gets nothing back.

Well... this one made things complicated...
Plus, I hate how Cassidy & Tulip are going 'meh' to the whole thing!
Hoping this is just building the suspense for big finale.

How long before Dennis tries to "take" Tulip and Cassidy has to put his old man son down?
