82% critics at RT = "mixed to bad reviews"?

It's way more mixed from the "audience" score - 46% - but the critics have liked it.

"AA" does have a 7.2 rating from IMDB patrons, which is a lot higher than that 46% would imply...

Wow, a film that isn't a cartoon is topping the box office. That doesn't happen often. I can see the headlines now:

    Dowager Countess Slaughters Rambo

My guess is that DA will have a great first week with all the show's fans going, and then drop like a rock. Does it have any appeal to those of us who've never watched a single episode of the TV version?

FWIW, an animated film has been #1 at the box office 8 of 38 weekends in 2019, and 2 of those 8 weekends were "Lion King", a photorealistic animated film that looks nothing like a "cartoon"...

I'll probably see it, but I can't claim to be very interested. Also unsure how much sense it'll make since I never did watch any of the show!

That's doubtful to me. If you don't know who these characters are already, you're going to be very confused and adrift. One thing I think a lot of audiences don't understand is that a lot of old distant-royalty families maybe own castles, but they're drowning in the debt of having to keep the castle up and pay for servants and so on. They have an income because of the farmers living on thousands of acres of their property, but -- as happened in real life -- that doesn't last forever.

I predict Last Christmas, will bomb , because they based the whole concept on george michaels
last christmas song. I like george michaels music.
But this taken it too far. I watched the trailer once it was so bad.
I like Emila Clarke, I would think she would not done this.
As she has done better roles than this.

To me, the list looks about like I might have expected it to look.

The exception being, I would have expected that Spiderman: Far From Home, to have come in somewhere between #6 and #10.

    That is a good selection.

How would you rate them in terms of your enjoyment, not how popular you think they might be.

And we have a candidate for what might be the biggest bomb of the year:

Shia LaBeouf Thriller ‘Man Down’ Sells Just One Ticket at U.K. Box Office

“Man Down,” a war thriller with Shia LaBeouf, grossed just £7 ($8.70) when it premiered in a single U.K. theater over the weekend, according to ComScore. That’s the equivalent of selling a single ticket, given that the U.K. Cinema Association puts the average movie admission cost in the country at £7.21.

“Poor Shia,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at ComScore. “That opening could be in the Guinness World Records or something.”

Good to see that the Tarantino has been both a commercial and critical success, based on the numbers in #1709 on global takings.

That was from 2017. That's an old article dated April 4, 2017 on the top of the page.

I do remember LaBeouf had a bomb with only one ticket sold but forgot what it was until you resurrected it.

Doh, sorry about that. I'm a victim of "Facebook recycling," when somebody reposts an old news story and neglects to tell us when it came out.

I wasn’t quite sure where to post this article about Amazon’s changing film strategy, but thought this thread might be appropriate.

Behind Amazon’s Abrupt Change in Its Film Strategy

I’m sorry to hear they are going the Netflix route of releasing more films to streaming and fewer to theaters. I’m not sure if I’m interested enough in The Aeronauts enough to see it, but I think for sure a film like that belongs on the big screen in a theater. I think Late Night did poorly because it just wasn’t very good. I looked forward to that film because I think Emma Thompson is great and I thought the concept was very interesting, but when I saw it (in the theater) I was disappointed.

I'm guessing that OUATIH will have a much longer shelf life on streaming and dvd than most of the other films released this year. It's a film you can view again several times and discover new things.

They are advertising the crap out of it, so I think it should do pretty well. The trailers look humorous, but no better and no worse than you might expect. People forget that this was previously done in 1991, 1993, and 1998, aside from the 1960s TV series. Eh, 20 years after the last remake is not that bad, and at least this is a CG/puppet animated version.

It seems that the critics are not overly fond of it. Looks like one of their worst calls on a movie this year.

The audiences seemed to like it though.

But then, the critics gave Ad Astra a 84% approval rating.

with DC seemingly doing incredibly well, with their films at the BO (and critically , for the most part) , truthfully , they should just adapt more comic books (DC or Marvel) . The public wants all-types of Superhero/Comic Book films (DC or Marvel) . R-Rated comedies , R-Rated Gangster pics , PG Superhero-blockbusters, so many more types of comic book films (DC/Marvel) that they could produce.. there should be no less then 10 (maybe) 12 a year
