reviews are up tomorrow ---but the reviews look strong Shazam 2 Reviews: What Are Critics’ First Reactions I suspect the men who do not like women in films , will dislike it though as the Female Lead, by all accounts steals the film
Good point, I have no idea why IMDB has it listed as a 2022 release when it opened in January in the Domestic market. Earliest Release Date December 28, 2022 (EMEA) Grosses DOMESTIC (55.1%) $95,017,390 INTERNATIONAL (44.9%) $77,354,310 WORLDWIDE $172,371,700
Considering your social media feeds is probably full of users names like @DCFanForver and @ZaddySnyder I don’t doubt it.
not in the least and Snyder fans are the most annoying people in the world most of my feed is female or (minority) males that work in the music industry
Box office tracking for Shazam is not good. https://twitter.com/BoxOffice/status/1636059314015072258?cxt=HHwWhMCzteTRubQtAAAA Weekend Box Office Forecast: SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS Paces for a Soft $24M+ Strike in Debut Top 5 from last weekend 1- Scream VI - $44.447 million 2- Creed III - $27.25 m 3- 65 - $12.238 m 4- Ant-Man - $7.133 m 5- Cocaine Bear - $6.249 m
This movie need spring break audiences and strong reviews (and I don’t mean early reviews), otherwise it’s DOA. I don’t rule that out. However, current estimate I’ve seen suggest a floor of $24 million. Presales have been dismal. Buzz (outside of your social feed) has been ambivalent.
Other red flags, review embargo hasn't lifted yet two days out from release and Warner's promo has been very subdued compared to the all out effort they gave Black Adam, probably an effort to save $.
$35 opening would be a win , at this point I admit that Shazam! Fury of the Gods the 1st 2 reviews are positive, they have to be praying this is going to be the trend
In sum: MCU overstayed its welcome. (exception - not familiar with and haven't seen the Spidey movies) WB never understood (and probably still doesn't) what DCU is all about, though Nolan's trilogy is better than the best MCU movie imo. Are WB execs really too busy having lunch meetings to read a few comic books? It would appear so. The King Kong Godzilla crap was pretty dire too. (except first G-zilla movie had some moments when it wasn't trying to win the Heavens Gate Award for obscuring images in dust) How do these people get hired? What do they do all day? Make excuses and cover their ass? Is that like a real job? And from my pov: yawn. Superheroes are over for a while I think MI 7+8 will be huge
It all depends if the films are good Good Movies , do well Bas Movies , Don't sure there are exceptions with the internet there is less something like the 1st "Grizzly" film would not be a blockbuster in the 2020s WOM spreads with Social Media , so fast 1st thing many people do , is post on FB , Twitter , Insta , the moment they walk out of the film I admit I want to see DC do well Hopefully Gunn is the man for the job
That Rotten Tomatoes score (which unfortunately keeps falling) is probably the last nail in the coffin for Shazam. Shame because the first one was enjoyable. I don’t see this breaking $30 million this weekend. With that opening it would need massive legs to not end up as another money loser for WB.
And it looks like Shazam 2 is officially tanking (or should I say "underperforming")... ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Bombs At Box Office with $30M Opening: Here’s Why – Deadline Box Office: 'Shazam 2' Zaps Up $11.7 Million Opening Day - Variety Eh, I'd tell you right now my prediction that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will go over $700 million this summer. Does that count as a superhero movie? Well... it's a Marvel movie, so there is that. Totally agree. Mission 7 could potentially hit $1 billion dollars. I think there's a lot of goodwill and affection for him among the public... assuming the story is good.
Tom Cruise Has Seen The Flash Movie and He Loved It – The Hollywood Reporter well, at least DC has some good news this week
