PrimaLuna owners, question about start up.

My Evo 300 has an issue and I am just trying to compare with some folks that are running a similar unit. This is the preamp only. Upon completion of the warm up the AUX switch is acting funny. About 6 months ago it would automatically switch from Aux1 to HT bypass and pop in the speakers in the process. After 10 startups it went away. I have recently been using it in Aux2 and now it is switching itself over to Aux1 after the warmup cycle. I don't remember it doing this. I remember it starting in the same position as it was turned off the previous use. So if I was in Aux2 as shut down, it would start and be in Aux2.

My question is, does your Primaluna default to Aux1 upon startup?

I suggest you revise your title and add "EVO 300 preamp" somewhere along the line...

Who are "they" that are telling you otherwise? Certainly not the support folks at Upscale Audio, the US home of PrimaLuna...

I had an Evo400 preamp. It never changed inputs unless I switched them myself and always defaulted to the last used input at power-on.

Call Kevin Deal. Maybe he can help you in a flash. Pretty sure that's what they do day in and out in upscale.

 

Yes, a gentlemen at U.A. but we might have been getting our wire crossed. He said his integrated defaulted to Aux1 at startup. Apparently there is a chip that controls it, might be bad. I have a local shop that is authorized so I don't have to send it back to CA.

 

My Evo 200 integrated defaults to AUX1 upon every startup.

 

Interesting. Maybe the integrated units are different. Just started mine again today and it stayed on Aux 2 as it had been doing. Early I started it and it went to Aux 1 and popped the speakers.

 

My PL Dialogue HP integrated always defaulted to Aux1.

 

Mine too but its only an EVO 200 integrated amp. When I got the primaluna, my first impression was right away the pro logic selector instead of the manual old school. But that's what Kevin Deal said it benefits the rear inputs relay controlled in every switching to reduce noise and interference.

 

My EVO 300 PL pre always retains its last input on startup; the PL Dialog Premium pre it replaced reverted to AUX 1 on startup. The Prologue 3 that it replaced did not have relays and its old school mechanical switch stayed wherever you had it last.

Thanks for the info. I contacted Upscale right away and there is a local authorized dealer that will do the work. Suppose to hear from him tomorrow, hopefully drop it off tomorrow. The issue is it doesn’t seem to do it every time, but I took a video.

Update:

Preamp goes in tomorrow, I can only speak for this model but it should not default to anything at start up, always back to the last set input. Mine is jumping around to several Aux now at start. Apparently a bad chip. Primaluna has been fantastic and is going to work with my local dealer. Going to take awhile as the repair person is backed up with other projects.

 

My Dialogue Premium HP integrated also defaulted to the CD input on startup, now that I think about it. But my Evo400 Preamp definitely powered up with the last used input selected.
