Lol, I remember the original single-CD release of 1999 had "D.M.S.R" omitted because they couldn't fit it on the disc!
Their goal is to get people to buy the whole package. Hence, why would they separate perhaps the biggest selling point of said package?
this looks pretty good...people will always complain about what's NOT on here but come on...let's just be glad what we've been finally getting these past few years. few notes on the live portion of the set... that Detroit show has been around since the mid-90's when 'original' City Lights box (famous bootleg) was unleashed. it has always been one of my favorite early Prince shows around, blistering performance from very early part of the 1999 tour. Houston video has been around even longer than that. i remember picking it up in the early 90's from Pasadena record show along with 81' Houston show. it's an in-house video recording from Summit (venue) themselves. they use to record all their shows...Springsteen released his for Darkness box set few years back. quality isn't the greatest (limited angles, etc) and the show itself is average but... at least it looks to be the full set when the boot is incomplete or...at least the ones i've had.

I had no idea Can't Stop.. was as old as 81/82! I originally heard it on that 89 box set The Crown Jewels.
Looks like an excellent set. I love that they've gone to the trouble of seeking out all those single edits.
Someone should totally do a Mark Lewisohn Beatles style triple volume book series, i mean jeez who on earth *wouldn't* read that?
I dunno. You'd sell more copies? What's the benefit of pricing out people who are interested? Sure, these things are all about money, but in the bigger picture it's also about getting as many people as possible to listen. It's like overpriced concert tickets. If an artist could sell X tickets at like a $250+ price point, but two or three (or more) times as many tickets at $75. Granted, most people are just gonna stream this, so it's kind of a moot point, but still. I will say, props for making the audio and video live shows different gigs. A lot of artists/labels/estates are pretty lazy with stuff like that. It's insane that this marks the first audio release of a 20th century Prince gig.
Yes, and then when they finally added it, the volume was waaaaaaay off compared to the other tracks. I hope that is finally corrected on this edition.

(Edit) This is getting silly. Even on a CD, song repetition with a slight difference between one version and another, is something I have NEVER sat through. Even worse on vinyl .
Wow! I still haven't taken in the deluxe edition from a couple of years ago! I need to listen to his stuff more. I almost always go to Dirty Mind.
Duane Tudahl's book about the 83/84 era is probably BETTER than any Lewisohn book, in my opinion: https://www.amazon.com/Prince-Purple-Rain-Studio-Sessions/dp/1538114623/ Tudahl has stated that he would like to do 85/86 next, but he'd love to hit all the eras. ESSENTIAL reading.
To each their own. I have been trying desperately for a good 10+ years to buy every mix/edit variation for every Prince track in best vinyl quality (often Warner Brothers 12" promos which sound fantastic). Although the collector in me still wants to search out those promo records and singles, I'm thrilled to have everything in one place.

Apparently they thought they had to point out that Moonbeam Levels is a 2019 remaster. Lots of folks (not me) thought the 2016 4Ever set used a circulating bootleg for that track. Lol.
I agree, but I'm betting they left it off because of the lyrical content. No "Lust U Always" either. Oh well.
