Hi, I'm looking for a new turntable for my system. Saw a lightly used Pro-Ject 6Perspex SB with 9cc evo for reasonable price from the distributor. In the price range I can also purchase a brand new Michell TechnoDec with RB300. Both turntables without cartridge, so I think about the Ortofon MC Quintet Blue. Anyone can share thoughts about those turntables? Is one of them going sound better? Other usual suspects in this price range? Thanks!
I don't know about Michell TechnoDec but I have a Pro-Ject Extension 10. I suspect both your options will be close in performance with the same Ortofon cartridge. The Pro-Ject carbon tonearm is quite good, but so is Rega RB300. Spend some decent money on a good phono stage and reputable SUT like Cinemag, Lundahl, Hashimoto. Enjoy and don't look back!
Thanks. will keep digging on it. Seems that the MoFi ultra deck and Clearaudio concept are in the same price range and well reviewed and recommended here.
Clearaudio is very nice. Looks are important for long term enjoyment. I am of the opinion to always over extend my budget and buy what I really want from the beginning than to keep upgrading
Michell TecnoDec is somekind of a hidden and sometimes forgotten gem in the competition around its price range. Its greatest asset is the marvelous inverted oil circulating main bearing that also can be found on its bigger siblings. It's an excellent and very good sounding turntable- a top performer in the price range. I've auditioned 6 PerspeX SB and it's good sounding as well but I would take a closer look at the IMO more well built TecnoDec.
Reviving an almost year old thread...What did you end up getting? I picked up a demo myself. They are throwing in a new Sumiko Amethyst for a total of $1,400. I picked up a new Pro-Ject Tube Box DS2 Pre-Amp and pretty happy with setup. I'm running a Ortofon 2M Bronze I had until the Sumiko arrives. Let me know your results and what you picked up.
Ended up upgrading to a Ortofon 2M Black MM while I waited for the Sumiko to show up. On good quality vinyl and mastering, I really love this combo. May sell the Sumiko to use towards a good MC next.
A Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX SB with the new Clearaudio Talismann V2.1 Gold Low-Output MC, what's not to like.
I think the TecnoDec is one of the coolest=looking tables out there. I've never heard one, and I know this is not helpful, but I just had to say it.
