    Hello everybody,
I saw this review of The Rolling Stones Singles Collection: The London Years [HYBRID SACD] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [BOX SET] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REISSUED], I thought you would get a kick out of it. :)

By Michael-Joseph Truxton Hovey (Fullerton, CA) - See all my reviews
The songs are unquestionably good, but the mono sound quality of most of these songs just ruins them. And by the way, fetus420, not all cd's sound good just because they're cd's. Most cd's sound horrible and quite unlistenable unless they've been remastered. And I actually like the cardboard digipacks. They make it a lot easier to get the shrinkwrap off and I just think they're a lot cooler than normal boring plastic jewel cases. Long live digitally remastered cd's for sure, but only if they are in stereo. The louder, crisper, and antiseptic sounding the better!!!

    Any thoughts????

That's gotta be tongue-in-cheek. Nobody REALLY thinks like that, do they?

Yep. Hate that "germy" and dirty sound. Gotta be clean and antiseptic... :)

To be honest I don't know. I checked out his other reviews and he has done 10 different reviews on "Dark Side of the Moon", so who knows?

If you read the customer reviews on Amazon then this type of stuff should not appear that unusual. This is almost the norm on there. I go to this Forum and a few other places for reviews of music I am or might be interested in BUT I do read the reviews on Amazon because they are amusing(sad but sometimes hilarious).

    I would guess two things:

    1. This is not tongue in cheek.
    2. Michael-Joseph Truxton Hovey does not hang around this forum. :)

I'm sure he is under 30. Grew up listening to MP3s and Music Choice on the TV.

That's just what I thought when my younger sister told me she liked colorized movies because she doesn't like black and white, and she doesn't like watching widescreen movies on television, because she doesn't like the bars at the top and bottom. The lesson is that not everyone perceives things the same way as you or I.

I suppose you're correct. Reminds me of when my sister told me that instrumental music wasn't real music.... "because it has no words!"

Antiseptic? Wow, there's a poor word choice. Get thee to a turntable.

But hose down that turntable with Lysol first! And don't you dare take the shrink wrap off the album & expose the album to germs!

    When in doubt, disinfect!

Heh...from my experience the over 40s who've killed their hearing are the ones who love maximized sound.

What's funny is that a friend of mine who is a major vinylhead and should hang out here (but doesn't) occasionally will say to me that he would like to have nice crisp remasters of (insert band here)'s catalog.

I think that people have become so exposed to modern mastering - especially of new material - that they expect all these old records to be punchy and up to snuff. I have heard that a person's auditory memory is incredibly short, so if it is a record they haven't heard in a long time, sometimes even decades, they might not even noticed if it is loud and compressed or not.

There are a LOT of people who think that way. There are a lot of people who don't understand that mono can sound equally as good as stereo, and they care more about having different information in each speaker so it sounds cool in their headphones.

You might want to move that up to people in their 60s. From my experience, it is those in ther 60s, particularly ones who have exposed themselves to years of loud industrial machines or guns have shot hearing and appreciate goosing at the top end of the frequency specturm.

Most people think MONO is in ONE speaker! I can't tell you how many times I've said to someone that a recording is in mono and they are totally confused about what I mean.

We don't know if he is on this forum.

There are a number of people who seem to go all over the internet and post reviews about mono CDs and about how they hate mono.

Grant- Mid 40s, that includes all of the stadium rock disciples I'm thinking of (I just realized they aren't in their 40s anymore...). People in their 60s love it too though.

 Yeah, that "mono sound quality" really spoils my listening experience. I mean, it's fine if you're the RCA Victor dog, I suppose, but why they couldn't have remastered the music into stereo? Isn't that what they use Dobly for?

    Just sign me Tarquin F'tang F'tang Olé Biscuit-Barrel. ;)

Don't you mean "Doubley?" That's how they get the sound into two speakers, isn't it?
