Pulled the trigger and have a VPI prime scount B stock on hold...opinions?

I vacillated between the ClearAudio Concept and the VPI and decided on the VPI. Anyone else have this sucker and want to weigh in? The B Stock is nice because it's the EXACT same thing as the 2017 Prime Scout other than the shape of the table. Same motor, tonearm, feet, etc. Kind of excited about this, coming from a Pro-Ject DC Esprit I feel like I'm getting a big boy tt finally. using this with my McIntosh 2105 and C28. And yes, I already know I need additional equipment if I want to use an MC cart.

 

Had a Clearaudio Concept and never connected with it. Traded for a Scout (not Prime), and loved it! I’m sure the Prime ‘B’ is even better!

that was my dilemma, clearaudio or VPI. after speaking with Bes at Music Direct, chose VPI and he wasn't pushy, he liked them both but VPI is a better seller. They only had 2 b stock units left so he's holding one for me.

 

A dear friend just retired from owning an audio store for nearly 40 years. So now it's fun to ask him what additional equipment he really likes and would have sold if the line(s) had been available. For turntables the answer was instantly VPI. That's high praise in my book.

 

nice to hear! I really wanted a table I didn't feel the need to upgrade, but of course I have an ortofon 2M blue which means I'll want to upgrade that soon. I just don't have the ability to use MC carts as of yet, so holding off. looking at soundsmith for the future.

With the VPI you might need a tone arm cable so shop around for that - check if you need one.

 

What tonearm does it come with?

 

the jdw or something like that, 9" i think.

 

Bes and really everyone at music direct are great- some incredible deals pop up (like yours).
I've been watching those and the prime and for the asking price nothing on the market will touch it. the prime scout is a great deal at it's retail price.

 

There’s a prime b stock for $2700 or so available. Think on sound stage.

If I hadn’t spent all of my upgrade money, I would have joined you in picking up one of these. It seems like a smashing deal!
