Good, a humble beginning but far better than their 80s output

I agree. Like it, don't play it often. Keep Yourself Alive and Jesus are my faves. The Roger Taylor piece does nothing for me (and I do love his voice).

To me somewhere between 'Very Good' and 'Excellent'. Love this album.

Their first two albums are probably my favorites. The production/sound quality is not that great, but the songs are brilliant.

Excellent, one of the great rock debut albums with no bad tracks. I like the sound of it, flaws and everything. Queen never sounded this live on a studio album again. 5/5

  6. Very good as a Queen album. Excellent as a debut. It bears a lot of influence from the departed Tim Staffell which make it unique in the Queen discography, almost like the Smile album that never was.

3/5 I guess. A good debut, with much better to come, from my perspective.

3/5. I should listen to this one again. I own a copy and have listened to it more than once, but the only song I can remember is "Keep Yourself Alive". And there was something called "Jesus" that didn't impress me.

It's got a couple of turkeys but some stunning stuff too. Love Liar and Night Comes Down.

I always liked their more straightforward rock albums. This, Sheer Heart Attack and News of The World are their best three albums in my view. A strong debut with barely a wasted track, give or take one or two of the slightly fey ones like My Fairy King

Queen's first three albums are my favorites. Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack would both get 5/5 from me, but the debut a 4/5 as some of it sounds slightly unfinished. Still, a great album!

By far Queens greatest album pity they couldn't stay a out and out Heavy Rock Band.

    Excellent debut album.
All strong songs. King Rat is a favourite along with Liar.

The promise was there...great playing, excellent harmonies, a flair for adventure, but the songwriting was still coming together. Some excellent highs (My Fair King, The Night Comes Down), near misses (Great King Rat, Doing All Right), and some freshman oofs (Liar, Modern Times Rock and Roll).

I always felt Queen II took most of these ideas and basically perfected them.

Having said all of that, it's been awhile since I've listened to it, so I should revisit.

In my opinion, this album lacks memorable songs, aside Keep yourself alive

Hmm...I initially read your post as ' it's a turkey with some stuffing' which is more in line with how I feel about it.

Have you played it much? I found the songs memorable when I was still in primary school. This was the first Queen vinyl album I bought with my own pocket money then. I had Greatest Hits which I'd got for Christmas. It had all the other albums pictured on the inner sleeve. I still remember buying it at £2.99 on the budget Fame label. I could afford that! Next was Sheer Heart Attack which was in a sale for £1.99, then Queen II, also on Fame. The rest were more expensive, so they were Christmas or birthday presents, or picked up second hand.

I forgot Modern Times Rock n Roll and My Fairy King the album is full of great songs and the only filler is the Seven Seas bit at the end... but even that fits in because it is a sign of what was to come next !! :)
