  1. I feel the same way about Jazz as you do about A Day At The Races. Jazz always struck me, even upon it's first release, as the album that they went back to the operatic sound, but it seemed kind of forced, or reluctantly. Maybe because of the criticism they got from News of the World sounding so un-Queen like. Sadly to say, Queen lost me with The Game, because Another one bites the Dust completely turned me off. Dragon Attack didn't help either. I guess at the time Queen doing Another one bites the Dust was actually a prophesy. Both Jazz and The Game do have some strong tracks, but they were the beginning of the end. At least for the band here in the U.S.

Hopefully someone who owns the previous DTS disc will compare that one and this new mix and give an opinion.

The DTS 5.1 mix on this set's definitely better than on the DVD-A....a much fuller, tighter mix imho....the cd sounds much better than any other version i've heard.

I broke down and bought the newest version when I saw it in the racks at BestBuy this morning...couldn't help myself.

I can't listen to it yet as I am still waiting for my Denon DVD3910.

The DVD Audio 5.1 is amazing, although living on the bright side, I wonder if this XXX release is less bright?

The "new" cd/dvd claims "for the first time this includes a new surround mix of the final track "God Save The Queen", and some improvements to the surround mixes previously issued to a small audience on the DTS DVD-Audio release."

Also "in addition for the surround track, a whole set of 5.1 mixes has been created from microscopically accurate digital sound files, mirroring the original multitrack tapes."

I guess the small audience was us (who bought the last one!:D)

    Credits:

CD & DVD mastered by Bob Ludwig, Gateway Mastering Studios.

    then it says:

5.1 Mixes produced by Roy Thomas Baker, co-produced by Brian May.

    also says:

5.1 audio confirmed to stereo by Scott Elson.

    hmmmmm.............interesting.

I know May had battles with Scheiner, to the point where ES threw up his hands and said leave me alone!

  21. Saw this today at Tower for $19.99. I'll check BB out a little later to see their price.

yeah, but the 5.1 by Baker.....dunno. Scheiner's mix was pretty crazy good! I think May found it too manic.

I thought Baker had made the original 5.1 mix. IMHO, he's DA MAN... the one who (besides Freddie and Brian) can take the album to another level altogether. I'm glad it was him.

BTW, is this a great moment for my surround receiver to blow up, or what? :realmad:
