You need to hear ES's Porcupine Tree, Beck, and other great mixes.

For me though, Jerry Harrison is the reigning 5.1 champion for his Talking Heads mixes! :righton:

No, dts 96/24 is not high resolution because it is still lossy compressed. DTS-HD can be Hi-Res lossless, but it can also be lossy compressed, IIRC.

I agree. And, I also prefer it (stereo and 5.1) to the SH DCC disc, which I always felt lacked punch.

And what exactly do they mean by 'confirmed to stereo'?

Death in Six Channels? A Night At The Opera  A moment of clarity? read carefully! July/August 2002 Sound&Vision mag.

edit: "Accordingly, it's appropriate to call the first six-channel remix 'the Scheiner version' and the revised remix 'the May version' The latter is now in stores, carrying an added credit: 'Co-produced by Brian May for Queen' The packaging is identifiable by it's black spine and the 2002 copyright. The first package - containing the Scheiner version-has a light-blue spine and a 2001 copyright."

2...the original that no one seems to have....the May tweaked DVD-A, and this new one is the same as the DVD-A except for God Save The Queen

Now I have a brain tumour!

    2001-DVD-A 'Scheiner' -rare
    2002-DVD-A 'May' general release
2002-dts sound is a different beast to the DVD-A sound.

According to Jamie, the new one also is done by ES.

It should be the same as the DVD-A. SHOULD be.....

Same mix perhaps -but the dts sound is different to the DVD-Audio on the 2002 release!
the 2005dts sound 'may' be the same as the 2002dts.(dizzy out)

Was the 2001 Scheiner version released commercially? Is it really out there? Is there any way to spot it without listening to the disc (e.g., credits)?

So, there's a DTS disc of ANATO (a "CD") and a DTS DVD-A version that are *different* from one another?!?!? Hokey Smoke, Bullwinkle!

I thought DSOTM was a confusing album!

    The 'May' Version 2002:p

    differences- relate to guitar

"And one of the May changes is in 'Death On Two Legs'
when Mercury delivers that delicious "Shark!" -from over my shoulders. Yes, it's an effect. But it works." -Ken Richardson/2002-DVD Audio sound gets a 3 out 5 stars

  20. I have a Pioneer DV-588A player, but I don't have it hooked up to video. I use it as a stand alone with my reciever at the moment. Here's the problem...

I can't access the 5.1 mix w/o the video menu screen. Any body who has a Pioneer DV-588A have any suggestions on how to get around this w/o hooking it up to video? Thanks.

Just got my copy of the new 30th Anniversary remaster.
I have to say I think its great! Beautifully packaged, and I like the video stuff. The audio commentary is cool too - some interesting insights. The menus are beautiful too, believe it or not.
And soundwise? I think it kicks butt! I have the previous DVD-A edition and I think it is possibly even better than that one. The precise credits make it fairly clear that this is a new remastering for the CD and a new 5.1 mix for the DVD as well.
Overall... Im a happy guy with this!

Seeing as the thread is so confusing. . . is this disc also 2ch hi-rez? I don't have a 5.1 system

OK... not sure how much this is going to help... but seeing as it has become somewhat confusing apparently, I will give the credits direct from the inside of the new package.

    Quoted as written:

And to answer your question directly - there is a PCM Stereo 96/24 mix on the DVD.
Hope this clears things up for everyone... although Im not holding my breath ;)
