I really enjoyed it and may rewatch it. While I was very tempted to binge it I kept myself to two episodes per day to savor it. It's beautifully shot and designed, the writing is sharp and the acting is all wonderful. It's just deep enough to have some emotional weight in the later episodes, but I found great pleasure in just watching it. Anya Taylor-Joy is a star and deserves all the accolades she's getting for this. One of the best things I've seen since the beginning of the year.
The lead is fantastic and the production is slick, but the first few episodes are not as good as I'd hoped. I'm comparing to House of Cards, Narcos, Narcos: Mexico, Russian Doll, and the like. Bojack Horseman was a Netflix all time great that ranks up there with the finest from HBO. Suppose my expectations are quite high.
I watched four episodes last night and loved it. Taylor-Joy is perfect. She's going to be a major star.
I haven't seen this yet, but I read the Walter Tevis novel that the series is based on many years ago, and loved it. If you like the series, the book is well-worth checking out.
Have only heard good / great things. Finishing Haunting of Bly Manor first (average but keeping me interested), then onto Queen's Gambit. Looking forward to it
5 episodes in and hooked. Too bad there is only a few more to watch. There's going to be a season 2 apparently.
My daughter and her boyfriend also started the show over the weekend and love it. Can’t wait to get back to it tonight.
I finished it last night and thought it was excellent. I hope they don't try a sequel. It was perfect as is.
I watched it over the weekend and thought it was excellent-Anya Taylor-Joy's performance is terrific.
One of my three favorite novels and I am stunned, stunned, STUNNED it appears to have been made into a high-level, respectful miniseries. For those of you unfamiliar with Walter Tevis, he is the author of the books on which THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH, THE HUSTLER, and THE COLOR OF MONEY are based on. But THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT is his best. I can't wait to see this. I saw an interview about how the actress sought coaching from chess pros on how to pick up and move the pieces so she didn't look like a noob. That level of attention bodes well.
Very good series, very well paced. I just could not stop watching it! The acting was fantastic as well. Anya Taylor-Joy was a great choice for this role. I could not imagine a more perfect fit. Watched the whole thing in two evenings.
Like everyone else, watched it, loved it. Thought there were a few clichés and soap opera elements, but Anya Taylor-Joy is indeed a star.
She apparently did a mix of moving like a real chess master would, and adding her own movement influenced by her experience as a dancer. The move is very believable based on her character, and she apparently memorized the moves from actual games. I know very little about chess but the attention to detail really does add to the movie. I've never seen her in anything before, but I am going to go back and watch her movies after I finish this.
