I was wondering why the final episode seemed to end so abruptly. It's a good ending point...but I was surprised when the credits rolled rather than one of those cliche titles-over-still-frame "and this is how the rest of the character's life went" synopses.

Okay, I'll go ahead and say it. Insanely-attractive, isn't she.

I'm in the same boat. Anyone care to comment on whether being largely ignorant on the game of chess will hamper enjoyment?

Looks like I spoke too soon about season 2:

Why there won't be 'The Queen's Gambit' Season 2 on Netflix

Although the headline is misleading. The article given reasons why there may or may not be another season.

Finished the series last night. I found the ending very satisfying and would be fine if it ended there.

I don t ' think.so as long as the obsessiveness she has for the game is understood.

I don't think it would affect your enjoyment at all.

I'm not sure where a second season would go.

I suppose you could focus on one of the other characters. I think you could create a good story for the US champion/lover she beat and how he copes with life going forward. I guess you could create a story for the black friend, how she deals with the rest of the '60s and where her activism takes her--although that story seems pretty far afield and I didn't find her character all that compelling.

Or I guess for the main character you could have her come up against someone even younger and better. But I am not sure I'm looking for the Rocky series of chess. Still, there are plenty of questions not answered at the end: Can she keep her addictions at bay? Can she find real love and maintain a relationship?

Somehow, I feel any continuation to provide additional closure on these questions would dilute some of what made the first season so good.

We finished the season last night and yep, great series and a solid ending. Anya Taylor-Joy will/ should win an award for her performance.

I’m looking forward to resubscribing to Netflix to watch this. I just listened to a podcast with Bill Simmons and Wesley Morris from the NYTimes and Bill thought this was the best short-length series of all time. Even better than the great British series.

Brilliant. Best original series Ntflx has done IMHO. Anna Taylor-Joy is, as she was in The VVitch, terrific.

Agreed. I don't have questions about what happens next. Let the series stand alone.

I probably will watch a second season if it happens.

Agreed. They told the story they had to tell. Not everything needs to be extended forever.

Wow, what a show. It's rare one of these "somewhat artsy" things lives up to all the hype, but we're loving the show so far. I'm not going to blow through it fast -- we're still recovering from the first episode. Absolutely terrific show.

What is that about? I can see descriptions, but is it like horror or not really?
Tough to stream without signing up for stuff...unless TVcatchupasustralia but I didn't look at that, I'd have to finally get a VPN...

    Groan...

Meanwhile, what is the Bible movie the orphans are watching and she sneaks out? I was searching and get matches to "One Night With The King" and "The Sotyr Of Queen Esther [full movie]" and a bunch of similar stuff, but no text that clearly states what it is. Those big old epics are some of the few movies me and my wife can agree to watch at home, she doesn't like slow movies BUT she doesn't like super-violence either (which these days makes it difficult to watch anything at all. Epic movie suggestions welcome!)

watched first 3 episodes and it’s stunning so far. Only quibble is she would have been a genius chess player without the tranquilizers - that’s a bit of puffery

Escape from Dannemora is the best short series ever, FWIW
