    Steve,

My version of this CD has a version of Daniel on it that is not the commercially released version.

It has completely different phrasing in the chorus and a totally different mix. Some of the drum and guitar parts are different as well.

How did you come by this version, and did you use the same tape on LP as well?

    Thanks!

The first press used an alternate mix. We then thought better of it, and substituted the regular mix for the next press.

    You've got a collectors' item!

I don't know which version is in my collection, how does one tell the difference?

    Thanks Steve.

I thought it was different. If I remember correctly I called the DCC office and notified them at the time. I didn't realize it had been corrected in subsequent pressings.

The way you tell is to listen to any commercial release of the song and compare it with your DCC copy. It is unmistakably different.

I noticed it the first time I listened to it without any comparison. It is that different sounding in the vocal phrasing in the chorus and the over all mix. Not as compressed (more dynamic) and more reverb.

Sorry about the picture guys, I was trying to set an avatar, I made it over to the other forum and understand how to do it now.

    :D

Oh, I thought that was your backyard or something. I was thinking: "And I thought it was cold in Canada!?!?".

The picture is Summit Lake on Mt Evens outside of Denver.

Man I wish it was my backyard!

I only have the DCC gold cd version of "Daniel" so I don't have any reference. I would like to know which version I have.

The time on my version of Daniel is: 3:54.760 in Cool Edit Pro.

The inner portion of my cd has 10/94 1DA3 and the cat #.

I don't know which version I have, but it is my favorite song on the CD.

Is this by any chance the mix that appeared on the "Superior Sound of Elton John" CD?

Very close, but no cigar. Good guess.

The actual mix tape of Daniel had some oxide problems. We decided to use it anyway on the second press.

    Mine has 9/94 1DA2.

But the time is the same in Cool Edit.

    The Polydor CD (827 690-2 01%) is 3:53.706.

Since I have no intention of selling my EJ GH gold disc, just gonna have to live with it, whatever mix is on there.

I can't find a date on my copy anywhere ie. inner clear ring, inner gold ring, outer ring, no where. But it does sound different than any other version that I've heard. (shrug)
