QUIET RIOT's Ninth Studio Album, 'Alive And Well', To Get Deluxe Reissue Treatment

Well, I’m surprised. Surprised this was seen as something to reissue, and surprised the live material is from 1984.

Here’s the tracklist. The first disc is the same as what was originally released. The second disc appears to be Live & Rare which came out some years ago.

    Track listing:

    Disc 1

    01. Don't Know What I Want
    02. Angry
    03. Alive And Well
    04. The Ritual
    05. Overworked And Underpaid
    06. Slam Dunk (Way To Go!)
    07. Too Much Information
    08. Against The Wall
    09. Highway To Hell
    10. Sign Of The Times (1999 Version)
    11. Don't Wanna Let You Go (1999 Version)
    12. The Wild And The Young (1999 Version)
    13. Mama Weer All Crazee Now (1999 Version)
    14. Cum On Feel The Noize (1999 Version)
    15. Metal Health (Bang Your Head) (1999 Version)

    Disc 2: Bonus Tracks

    01. Let's Get Crazy (Live 1984)
    02. Condition Critical (Live 1984)
    03. Run For Cover (Live 1984)
    04. Swinging Lumber (Live 1984)
    05. Winners Take All (Live 1984)
    06. Cum On Feel The Noize (Live 1984)
    07. Metal Health (Bang Your Head) (Live 1984)
    08. Danger Zone (Live 1984)
    09. Gonna Have A Riot (Live 1984)
    10. Thunderbird (Demo)
    11. Love's A Bitch (Demo)
    12. Let's Get Crazy (Demo)

I actually liked Alive and Well when it came out. But I don’t think I need a remastered version that will “bring out every nuance.”

For the record, I’m probably one of the few who likes Condition Critical and QR III. I’d love to see the deluxe treatment for those.

I really like Condition Critical too. They *evolved* some from Metal Health. Don't know if it went over as well with the hard core Metal Health crowd though. I'm in for the bonus tracks for this one. Thanks for posting. :righton:

Too bad Frankie isn’t still alive. He likely would have had an explanation for this even if only to say it was a record company idea that he didn’t agree with. Maybe someone will ask Rudy about it.

I have no interest in buying this since I own the main album and didn’t care for the live one. But I’m really interested in what the thought process was, and if there’s some hope of a wider deluxe campaign in the works.

I know beyond Metal Health their success was minimal, but I’m always in favor of doing the best possible for an artist’s catalog if the financials can line up.

The “Live and Rare” album is on YouTube. What’s interesting is that a version I saw has more songs than what I see in Apple Music for that release or what will be available on the CD. (Missing songs like Stomp Your Hands and Party All Night from Condition Critical.)

Just adds to the oddness for me. If you have a full show, give us the full show and not toss in some unrelated demos.

Of course, the live material is unrelated to the main album other than being the same guys, so I guess I shouldn’t try to find logic in any of this and simply feel some joy that QR isn’t totally forgotten by the label.

Hope this will be interesting enough for someone to buy it.

I liked Alive and Well. I hadn’t heard a QR album since QR III. It wasn’t an album to set the world on fire, but it was nice to hear those four together again.

For the re-recorded songs, I thought Don’t Wanna Let You Go was a really good remake.

Maybe it was some weird clause that says you can’t bundle something from the late 90s with something from the early 80s because people would scratch their heads and wonder what you were smoking.

You’re right... the whole thing is odd. I didn’t realize the live stuff was also Cleopatra. It might be that Regina would have no problem with the studio album being re-released, but she’s opposed to the live material for some reason. Maybe Frankie was never happy with that release or it was done without his permission.

Unlikely, but I’m hoping she’s upset because she’s got a really good re-issue campaign planned and doesn’t want competing releases in the market.

Oh well... I’m sure expensive lawyers will sort all this out.

These were also on the Live and Rare CD...but I believe they mastered the CD wrong and there are breaks between the live tracks...this is going off memory because I fixed it when I ripped it years ago.

They'd have done better to reissue the rest of Quiet Riot's 1990's and 2000's output, up to DuBrow's death. "Alive and Well" was already still in print when this reissue was announced.

Yes, it would be nice if Terrified, Down To The Bone and Guilty Pleasures were reissued at some point.

As well as reissuing Rehab and getting their 7 Japan bonus tracks since 1993 onto cd, vinyl and a digital marketplace in the US.

Don't think 10 is ever getting reissued as is. What remains of QR are implying they are going to re-record most or all of the bass to feature Rudy Sarzo.

Ahh, still open. Couldn't find a more appropriate thread, but I've really been rocking out with Terrified over the last few days. I'm trucking my way through their discography again.
