I was going to saw the same thing. I think the original pressing sounds wonderful. I’m hoping they don’t mess with it too much for the reissue. Though I’ll only buy the vinyl if it has bonus material anyway.
Guess we will get the details on this in the next week or so. Here’s what we won’t get(but I wish we would) -Any b sides, fan club releases -Any visual content outside of music videos and an electronic press kit (if there was one for this album) What I want is a good sounding high level live show. The shows for Out Of Time and Automatic were nothing special. The ones included with Document and in particular Green were excellent. And of course just about all of the BBC box was a travesty with all but one of the radio sessions and the 2004 concert sounding like a low grade bootleg. Remixes and remasters of original albums serve a purpose if there is something deficient about the original. This doesn’t apply to R.E.M. albums which are excellent quality to begin with. My favourite American band of all time so I’m in but the other 2 Concord boxes have been overpriced relative to amount of content and what else is on the market.
How they handle "Revolution" will be interesting. Fretless/Photograph got included on the last 2 box sets, though not original vintage non-album track form. Atmos surround?
i would love for them to somehow include the short films that were projected during the songs on tour. as far as i know they were only available on parallel between the music videos.
Looks like a November release as Super Deluxe Twitter account Paul at SuperDeluxeEdition (@sdedition) on Twitter
The b-sides of the 7” Monster singles were instrumental versions of the a-sides. The b-sides of the CD singles were excerpts from the 1992 Greenpeace live show that has already been released in full on the Automatic for the People deluxe box. Here’s your electronic press kit / visual content. I’m curious to see if this makes the cut for the deluxe box, as, in hindsight, it doesn’t exactly show the band in the most flattering light.
Aside from which, literally zero of the REM album reissues from Murmur through Automatic For the People has included that era’s b-sides or non-album tracks (in their original released versions). They’re not going to change up now. I feel fairly confident in suggesting that the release will be the same as the last two: Cd1: Album remastered Cd2: demos & outtakes Cd3(/4)/: live show, probably one already at least partially released - I wouldn’t be shocked if we essentially got Road Movie’s audio Blu-ray: album in surround etc, epk, videos
Never saw that before. Nice, a bit too long on the SNL appearance and what was Bill thinking of with those eyebrows.
If this is coming out in October, and I’m sure it is, I’m surprised there’s been no announcement, no track listing, no video, no teaser track on Spotify, no anything. Time to get the ball rolling to promote this release.
It's been like 3 weeks since they said to stand by for "breaking news" on this. What's the hold up? Give us the news!
Er, there's a 5.1 mix? On what format? I really liked this album, saw the tour. It was an odd album, even for R.E.M., but I enjoyed it a lot.
All the Warners albums from Green through Around the Sun were re-issued as CD/DVD-A combos with 5.1 mixes on the DVD-As. I don’t think Accelerate and Collapse Into Now have ever been issued in surround.
The DVD 5.1 of Monster is the only way to hear it. Leaps and bounds better than any other album, CD, download or record version.
Think you’ve got it bad take a look at the Bowie thread ! 2019's David Bowie box set 5 (Speculation Thread)
They posted a photo of the orange 7” for Crush With Eyeliner today. All the singles-focused posts make me wonder if they might do some kind of singles boxset along with the release. It seems like they have a lot of those singles still sitting around. Either way I just want more info already!
REM are mentioned on the cover of next weeks “Long Live Vinyl” magazine. It MUST be a feature on “Monster”, which means an announcement within the week.
The UK 7” colored vinyl singles for Monster were numbered limited editions, if I recall correctly. Plus they all had little gewgaws like a Monster pin or a calendar attached. I’d be surprised if they have a ton of that original stock just lying around.
I’m just guessing, but it kinda seems like it from their posts. The singles I have are numbered 13227 and 01582, so (I’m assuming) they pressed 5-digit amounts of them. I wonder how well they actually sold.
Here’s my dream release: 1 Blu-ray Disc with: The original mix in hires and no loudness applied whatsoever All b sides in hires All demos and outtakes of which there were many including all of the unused titles in he original insert. The 5.1 dvda track for completions sake All the available live vault stuff which would show the beginnings of NAIHF coming to fruition All three nights of the final Omni show as all three were fully taped and cut together to make Road Movie. And since the source recordings I think were originally finished at 24/48 and the Omni shows were shot on video I think-ALL OF IT could be on one single BD-50 or two discs and thus no boxset or high cost would be necessary!!!! It’s environmental, fan and audiophile friendly! But of course not, we have to have an Uber expensive CD box with loudness, remixes, little to none of what we want and new vinyl versions of the loud remaster. I really hate that these are on a label that seems devoted to making oversized high priced boxes that are full of disappointments. Sure they’re better than the awful IRS cd remasters but are chock full of missed opportunities.

The live show is the June 3, 1995 Chicago. Apparently unbooted as a soundboard. Per someone involved in the project, as I believed, every show from the 1995 tour is in the band’s archives, and a live download/Nugs-type series of live shows is a possibility down the road. I believe Scott Litt did the 2019 remix of the album proper. Disappointed that there’s only one disc of demos, but overall this looks great.
