"distinctive and highly original rhythmic backbone," is an understatement. Fantastic drummer.
    RIP

Well you know they've got a hell of a band.

OMG! Is Hammersmith 1982 THE greatest metal concert ever or what? The power of the entire band in 1982 was absolutely unbelievable. I still have no idea why they shelved it and went on to release endlessly inferior Live after Death 3 years later. Hammersmith 1982 is just as great as Made in Japan IMHO and Clive Burr was amazing! RIP. A great loss.

They shelved it for decades because they weren't happy with how dark it looked, etc. If you search hard enough, you can find the complete concert, but the quality is absolutely terrible!

The bizarre thing is that you can find "Sanctuary" from this show on 12 Wasted Years, but it was not included on the Hammersmith '82 DVD!

Still, I think it's my favorite footage of Iron Maiden, and it's awful to see this happen to Clive.

Killers was my fist Maiden album. R.I.P. Clive. Your drumming on those first three Iron Maiden albums will live on forever.

The cymbal action in "Genghis Khan"... that's almost program music right there. The man knew exactly what to play at almost every moment. It may not be appropriate for a R.I.P. thread, but I'll say that I vastly prefer his playing to Nicko's.

One of the greats, who rightly belonged with one of the greatest bands. He will be forever remembered and respected.
    Rest in peace.

I watched Iron Maiden the Early Years tonight and remembered how much Clive has rocked my life soundtrack. I kinda liked Clive better than Nicko. Subtler and more flowing. He really complemented Steve's bass work. The first three Maiden albums really are the best, especially Killers.

I saw that show in Frankfurt in 1980 as well. Iron Maiden blew KISS (w/Eric Carr in fox makeup) off the stage, IMO.

Btw, the ticket price that night was 21 DM, which at the exchange rate then was a grand total of $11.80.

I was a fan when Maiden Japan was the current record. I was fortunate to see the Beast Tour when Maiden opened for Scorpions at Long Beach Arena. Great show. RIP Clive: at least you are no longer suffering. I had just pulled out my extensive Maiden collection a few days ago to post on another thread (Vinyl Collecting). I literally had started playing the UK imports this morning and had played Side 1 of the first EP (Women In Uniform - Invasion) when I logged on here and saw this sad news. I will be playing all my Maiden vinyl and posting pics on the 'Listening to on vinyl' thread. Clive was an amazing drummer - power with a great deal of finesse - in my mind he is the Bill Bruford to Nicko McBrain's Alan White. And I love Nicko. Up The Irons!!

RIP Clive - a proper geezer and top drummer. nothing will ever come close to the first 2 albums and he was the powerhouse driving them along.

    he will be missed
