R.I.P Derek Fowlds

Derek Fowlds, who played Bernard Woolley who played the Principal Private Secretary to the Minister for Administrative Affairs in the tv politically satirical sitcom Yes Minister died today.

He also starred in the Yorkshire TV series Heartbeat.

 

Also Basil Brush’s sidekick......

 

Just read this sad news on the BBC.

Yes, Minister/Prime Minister is one of my all-time favourite shows, and Bernard’s one-liners often stole the scene. His comic timing and delivery was impeccable.

 

Someone who seemed to get very old very quickly. I remember him fondly from Basil Brush and Yes, Minister

to a great actor and my memories
of him with Basil Brush when I was a child.

 

He was great alongside Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne in Yes Minister/Yes Primeminister. Never a fan of Heartbeat, but I won't begrudge him a steady acting job. I honestly can't remember him hosting Basil Brush, but perhaps that's a good thing (he shouldn't be the star of the show).
