She also hosted many a Midnight Special. Surprised no one has mentioned yet.

It's the cruellest thing I've ever witnessed. Just awful.

I haven't heard any Helen Reddy and get the impression that she was a huge star in the US, more so than the UK.

    RIP

I recall that after going through a period of becoming incredibly popular, with "I Don't Know How to Love Him", and then "I Am Woman", she went through a period of being perceived as completely uncolo, no doubt from radio over-exposure. The Phil Collins syndrome.

In recent years she seems to have got back a bit more respect.

she has some fine pop albums throughout the 70's, a double live album as well, pretty good (but she put I Am Woman in a a medley) a great symbol for women in the 70's, she'll be missed

RIP, her music was something I heard growing up that my mom used to play. It's not my kind of music but it's part of my history and a reminder of mortality.

This is one of my favorites from her second very good album for MCA Records — Helen goes 80’s!

I got this about a year ago, I have the quad 8-track of I Am Woman and have liked that album since it was new back then in '72. I'm so proud of the music and artists I grew up with. They had class, along with talent.

One of Helen's more adventurous tunes produced by Kim Fowley and Earle Mankey for her underrated album "Ear Candy", featuring 5 Reddy compositions, along with stellar covers of Stephen Bishop's "One More Night," Stevie Wonder's "If It's Magic" and of course Cilla Black's hit "You're My World".

Have to admit she wasn’t really my cup of tea growing up but my wife loves her. About 20 years ago she had me look for that original Greatest Hits LP. Doesn’t get played often but it will today.

Nothing worse than having to convince your mother that you are actually her son.

She had two iconic singles - I Am Woman & Angie Baby - plus a quirkiness that was always intriguing. Ironically, she played a singer who was in denial about the onset of Alzheimer's, in an episode of Diagnosis Murder (Swan Song).

John Lennon quoted that song in his final interview. He was really impressed with it and it inspired him to write his feminist songs.

Her rendition did place a bit higher than Yvonne Elliman's on the Billboard Hot 100 . . .

Yeah, only one single of hers - "Angie Baby" - ever charted in the UK. Sad but true. Much bigger in the States, she was.

    Exactly.

If you were around in the 70s, Helen Reddy was part of the soundtrack and the scenery. Radio, variety shows, etc.

    RIP Helen

And from what I've read, it was she who helped spur Olivia Newton-John to "make it" in the States.
