As a huge fan of The Fixx my favorite ’80s era record producer, Rupert Hine, passed away today. He was 72.
RIP. I first noticed Rupert as the producer of The Getaway and Man On The Line, two fine Chris deBurgh albums. He was much more besides. 72... it's a cliche but it's no age.
Very sad news, indeed. Rest In Peace, Mr. Hine. Thank you for the impact you have had on all of our lives as music fans. Thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.
I remember nearly buying the Pick Up a Bone LP one day back in the early 70s, but decided to spend my money on something else. I don't think I ever heard of him again until today.
I didn't see this coming. RIP. An outstanding body of work. Berlin's Teri Nunn in collaboration with Rupert Hine:
I believe he also directed this music video. I also remember hearing that he actually piloted the helicopter for the aerial shots!
A favourite producer of mine and he seemed a really good guy too. RIP Rupert and thanks for your great work.
His work with the Fixx stands above most of the 80’s and still sounds somewhat contemporary. Did some excellent work with Saga as well and Presto by Rush.
Still play the first four Fixx albums regularly and like the work he did with Rush too - especially Presto.
I liked his work with Tina Tuner, especially the opening track on her phenomenal "Private Dancer", which was a perfect comeback track for Tina: R.I.P. Rupert
That's a real shame. High quality producer and no mean performer in his own right. I first remember him as a member of Quantum Jump. very fond memories of their hit The Lone Ranger. Many years later, I managed to find their albums. Excellent, especially Barracuda. Condolences to all who cared for him
The Getaway Chris De Burgh was a pretty great album. He did a fine job on that, and for a lot of other artists. Camel and Howard Jones to name a few.
I love his work with The Fixx and the one he did with Saga really stands out in their catalogue R.I.P.
