So sad to read about Sarah’s passing…

Sarah Dash, groundbreaking R&B singer of Labelle fame, dies at 76

 

Another legend gone..R.I.P.

 

That’s sad. She was terrific. Glad I was able to see her with Keith back in the early 90’s with the X-pensive Winos.

I liked Sarah and Nona singing much more than Ms. LaBelle.

Loved Sarah, Patti and the Bluebelles (saw them a handful of times plus the Winos), and LaBelle. I didn’t know until I read Sarah’s obituary that Labelle was the first African American group on the cover of Rolling Stone. That made me feel crappy on multiple levels.

Adios, Sarah Dash.

 

Her performances were some of the high points (among many) of Keef's 1988 Talk Is Cheap album and subsequent tour. And of course, "Lady Marmalade" was one of the most undeniable (and inescapable) hits of the 1970s.
RIP, sweet Sarah Dash.

 

Absolutely my favorite song of the disco era and there was plenty of competition!

 

And she looked great at her 76th birthday party at Patti's house just a month ago...

We were just on-stage together on Saturday and it was such a powerful and special moment! Sarah Dash was an awesomely talented, beautiful, and loving soul who blessed my life and the lives of so many others in more ways than I can say. And I could always count on her to have my back! That's who Sarah was...a loyal friend and a voice for those who didn't have one. She was a true giver...always serving, always sharing her talent and her time. I am heart broken, as I know all of her loved ones and fans are. But, I know that Sarah's spirit and all that she has given to the world live on! And I pray that her precious memory brings us peace and comfort. Rest in power my dear sister. I love you always!

Sarah, Nightbird, I rarely used your last name, seems out of place. Words are inadequate so I will use few. We do poke a musical language, music says it best. Singing brought us together, You, Me and then You, Me, Cindy and Pat; Bluebelles. You and Pat were singing so joyfully the other night, we talked & texted on Saturday, now you’re gone, I can’t believe it Nightbird, why not let heaven be your home

The three of them together had a sound that was absolutely magical. While they went their separate ways, I don't believe there were ever any bad feelings amongst them.

I loved their reunion album and feel it was vastly underrated.

 

This show is not in the greatest quality but it shows how great Labelle were as a group... It's lengthy but worth your time...

 

I met Sarah a few years ago at a musical event at a Jacobs Piano store half a mile from my house. We were both in the audience and I had no idea who she was. I broke the ice saying to her "you look like you must be a singer." She told me she was and introduced herself and we chatted for 10 minutes about our musical activities and exchanged cards. She mentioned she was the local rep for either NARAS or ASCAP (don't recall which) and encouraged me to join.

Sad to read this news today.

 

She is from Trenton, in your neighborhood, so makes sense!

Labelle was a force of nature, and its 1971 joint album with Laura Nyro, Gonna Take a Miracle, produced by Gamble and Huff, in which the group and Ms. Nyro took on ten soul classics (14 on the reissue in 2002), took that legendary singer-songwriter to a whole new level. Thank you for your role in it all, Sarah, and RIP.
