Some of you may be surprised to see just how successful Rammstein are around the world these days. They play a sort of techno-industrial metal with German lyrics for those unfamiliar with them.

They sold out their European stadium tour which started the other day, with over 800,000 tickets sold. All ten shows in Germany sold out within a few hours with a list of 30 concerts in 24 cities and 17 countries.

They have an unbelievable 11 singles on the German charts right now (the 3rd biggest music market in the world) in the top 60 including a single which peaked at #1 and which remains in the top 10 after 8 weeks.

They also have an unbelievable 9 albums in the top 50 German album charts simultaneously. This is their 8th straight #1 album in Germany and 10th overall.

That is unbelievable dominance of one of the world's biggest markets and even though they sing in German, their amazing success isn't limited to Germany.

Not all of the charts info is in yet on their first album in 10 years but it is already extremely impressive: #1 in 10 territories, top 5 in another 8 places and performing quite well elsewhere too (#3 in the UK, # 5 in Australia and Canada)

    Austrian Albums # 1
    Belgian Albums (Ultratop Flanders) 1
    Belgian Albums (Ultratop Wallonia) 1
    Danish Albums (Hitlisten)1
Dutch Albums (Album Top 100) 1
Finnish Albums (Suomen virallinen lista) 1
    French Albums (SNEP)1
German Albums (Offizielle Top 100) 1
    Norwegian Albums (VG-lista) 1
    Swiss Albums (Schweizer Hitparade) 1
    Czech Albums (ČNS IFPI) 2
    Scottish Albums (OCC) 2
    Spanish Albums (PROMUSICAE) 2
    Swedish Albums (Sverigetopplistan) 2
    UK Albums (OCC) 3
    Australian Albums (ARIA) 5
    Canadian Albums (Billboard) 5
    Italian Albums (FIMI) 5
    Irish Albums (IRMA) 11
    Greek Albums 27
    New Zealand Albums (RMNZ) 27
    Japanese Albums (Oricon) 39

Rock is dead they say. Long live rock! Or in this case, lang lebe rock

The only songs I know by them are "Du Hast" and "Te Quiero, Puta". They also attracted a lot of controversy back in the 1990s because people tried to blame their music (alongside Marilyn Manson and ID Software's iconic Doom FPS franchise) for the Colombine High School Massacre.

Also, isn't "Du Hast" about wedding vows?

They always seemed like 'Laibach-lite' to me....but, good for them!

Was a big fan back in the day, but have to admit I lost a bit of interest after Reise Reise (2004). The new album is clearly a step up from the two previous ones though. That the tour sold out so fast (even here in Norway) did surprise me.

Also nice to see that they are (one of the very few) rock bands that have been around 20+ years that still spend money on making great videos.

The latest single being a good example:

I never would have expected that they would get this big outside of Germany (+ German-speaking country's and their direct neighbours). To be able to have 10000 people sing your German songs in Paris, New York and Santiago is quite a thing :)

i'm pretty sure the nonstop play of "du hast" on MTV + them joining a US tour with korn was a big part of becoming huge in the US. that, and these guys can write a great hook.

It's been quite a haul. I'm actually surprised they're still together.

I bought the new one today on CD. It's the "Deluxe edition". Whatever. Folds out a lot (with cool pics), German lyrics and 2 pages of small print of thank-yous in the booklet.

Not sure if I like it, yet. Lot of disco beats. I listened to it on the drive home, but now I can't get the new White Demin CD (Side Effects) off the stereo.

I've never liked them, but I can confirm that they're a huge success around here -not only their 2019 album but almost every album of theirs has been a blockbuster. They actually remind me of U2's success in the 1990s. Given their large following and sales, they might as well be considered the new U2.
