To me, underworld from underworld mk1-> freur, to underworld mk2-3 is more dramatic,
    same with ministry, and bjork.

all underwent major changes in style, to me talk talk just evolved, and it was gradual,
so it really wasn't that strange.

The thing is, I "know" that Party's Over is the least good.

I most wrote that list on what I happen to listen to, and for whatever reason I play said album a lot. The only record that can't move really is Laughing Stock, the other's can go all around depending on the day.

I have trouble articulating this, but I don't like the way Mark Hollis' voice meshes with synths - he has a bit of a whine in his voice, so having slightly whiny synths backing him is too much for me. I don't hate synths at all, but they just don't work with Hollis.

I read recently that he didn't like the synths either - it was just pragmatism as they had a limited recording budget as a band. As they became more successful, he was able to access more instrumentation.

It's My Life is an artistic step forward from This Party's Over, but I find it difficult to - Hollis + synths doesn't do it for me.

Totally. I voted on Page 1; Colour of Spring is my favourite, but the last three are all amazing and I can take or leave the first two.

I've been listening to the entire Spirit of Eden the past few days. What have I been missing all these years? An extraordinary album from start to finish!

I remember a guitarist I once played with complaining that the guitar on SoE was too loud and too nasty at times! But surely that's the point...

Thanks @RedRoseSpeedway for prompting me to revisit Talk Talk's albums. I'm going through a bit of a weird phase right now (nothing serious) and Mark Hollis's music is a tonic!

Each being so diverse, it’s hard to rank, but their music just grooves really well… I think one of the most overlooked things about them is the incredible rhythmic underpinnings of nearly all their songs. Their music has an undeniable concrete groove that just moves everything out of its way. Even something like After the Flood, without question my favorite track by them, just seems so gosh darn funky to me.

To me, the uniqueness of mark hollis' voice with the synths is the reason i liked it.

i'm pretty sure that i only understood about 20% of what he was saying at first,
but later on, after multiple listens, it got up to about 40% or so.

the timbre, and nasal sound all work together for me.

For real tracks like Tomorrow Started are already super bleak without Mark though his vocals sell it even more than it already did. Same deal with Renee and Such a Shame.
