    Thanks guys.
They are now added to my "must liten to list".
Which BTW is pretty long & should keep me out of trouble for a fair while & yet there are plenty of people on this forum that are stuck listening to the same old thing over & over.

I love my old stuff but there's nothing quite like the thrill of discovering something new.

My two favorite current bands are Blackberry Smoke and the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

All of these have great sound quality, Doug's singing is good. All of these are first issues bought back in the day as they came out.

Greetings from SC is completely different in sound, it's really country in spots. The last song on this disc is killer. What sucks on that track is the fade out at the end, about that time Toy's guitar and thumb were starting to warm up!

Guitars where dead (according to those in the know) in 1983. We can't have those pesky solo's.
At least they managed to keep the synthesizers out !

I know the Tedeschi Trucks Band by reputation but I haven't heard anything by them. I'll try and remedy that.

There are a few great new (ish) Southern sounding bands out there. Might have recommended these before so apologies if I'm repeating myself but the following are excellent:

    The Sheepdogs (from Canada)
    Whisky Myers
    Hogjaw
    Skinny Molly
    The Cadillac Three
    The Brothers Osborne
    Hand Of Dimes (From Wales)

The whole scene has become rejuvenated over the past few years and, while none of the above have reinvented the wheel, they all make a lovely noise.

I saw the Toy Caldwell Band back in the early 90's at a small club... the blues band I was in at the time actually opened for them. Quite a show, what a guitar player. I remember being really struck by "Fly Eagle Fly", as I had never heard it before. The guy was dripping sweat at the end, but still autographed my copy of Greatest Hits. I asked him what album the song about the eagle was on, and he had a hard time remembering! He said "the second one, I think". So first thing the next day I went to the CD store and found a copy of "A New Life".

A friend of mine sent me the Stompin' Room cd that got me started with my MTB revival. He has been to more concerts than any other person I know, by far! He's got the ticket stubs and posters to prove it. I've been to dozens of shows with him going back to the 70's. I told him I don't ever remember a time when I even had a chance to see them live anywhere. He said he saw them here in 1977 so I did a search and sure enough. I guess I missed this one and it looks like a great set list. This was a really great venue too.

Yes, recorded 5/8 and 5/9 1992 from Spartanburg. It has two songs from 1980 as bonus tracks.

The Carolina Dreams Tour '77 release I mentioned is from Feb. 18th in N.J. so that Buffalo show was 5 days later.

I love this song right here. Always great to hear Toy on Pedal Steel, and another stellar Doug Gray vocal.

The German Line Label is another good option if you can't find the AJK versions on CD. I don't believe they did the Greatest Hits though, just the individual studio albums.

    Where we all belong
    Still have orginial vinyl

Saw them many times in 70’s , allways good show and Toy could play.

Saw big show at Miami Baseball Stadium during the Urban Cowboy era
    Marshall Tucker
    Charlie Daniels
    Outlaws
    Grinderswitch
Not sure but thinking Elvin Bishop Group with Mickey Thomas was there too.

Those were the days, open air sitting on the ground and getting tore up. 12 hours of music. If the alcohol didn’t get you , the sun did. I sure do miss the days of being young and unafraid.

I know what you mean. I went to a concert in June '79 in a football stadium. The line-up was
Poco, Van Halen, Boston, and The Outlaws. The days before sunscreen. Got totally blistered in the
sun, but it was worth it.

Little Feat? Not southern any more than say Creedence was. But I do dig them.

*edit: from Southern California.... so I half take it back! :D

Havd you checked out their early demos? I have had a copy of these songs on cdr that I got in a trade years ago. The version I have is a bit different than this one on yt. The "Southern Woman" demo is a lot different than the version on A New Life. It almost sounds like "You Ain't Foolin' Me" in the jam part.

Same thing here in a football stadium upper deck with zero shade on a 95 degree day. It was in 75' and the line up was CSN&Y, Santana, Jesse Colin Young. We thought we were clever with our goat skin flasks filled with Jack and coke.
