Well, the backing track itself is pretty awful, but you've gotta hand it to Davy - he knew how to sing a pop song. I mean, this song is an absolute piece of fluff but Davy sells it incredibly well - his personality and delivery are what make it memorable. Turk nailed it - this could have totally been an '80s sitcom theme. 3/5
It's Now - 3.5/5 Guilty! Guilty of liking this song. Davy wrote this with Peter Doyle. Not familiar with him (Doyle), but this one is catchy and works despite its dated sound. I had this on a cassette of various solo songs and I hadn't heard it in a quite a while. Catchy earworm for me anyway.
Today’s song is How Do You Know: More pleasant light pop that again fits Davy rather well. Although it is clearly dated, music from this era is more palatable to me than some of the stuff that was recorded in the mid to late 80s (including the music that the various members of The Monkees made). There is a cheesy charm to this track. A solid 3/5.
How Do You Know - 2/5 Sorry Davy - I like ya, but have to pass on this one other than an occasional listen.
"How Do You Know" -- 2.5/5 This sounds like filler on a late '70s Bay City Rollers album or something. Not outstanding, but Davy once again sells it.
Huh, I must have fallen down and bumped my head because I don't find "How Do You Know" nearly as annoying as most of Davy's music. Don't get me wrong, I don't like it that much. It sounds like something he could have sung as a guest star on Love Boat or some similar show. 2.5/5
How Do You Know This is sort of pleasantly cheesy, and Davy gives it a good shot. But, it is just a bit too cheesy for me, mainly the arrangement, and that brings it down a bit. I could imagine this being a big production number for The Davy Jones Variety Hour, or something like that. Just as a record, it just doesn't work for me. 2.8/5
I read through the comments while listening and from the first note this shouts Love Boat as Bobby with a Dollar suggests. It is not top notch Yacht Rock and maybe not even middle of the pack but a low 2 from me.
OT - I'm sorry, but Micky just mentioned on a streaming interview that he has a version of Riu Chiu on his solo album Remember. He stated that he recorded 30 vocal backing tracks. I don't know of a solo version of this song except for some live holiday performances. It is certainly not on my copy of Remember. Does anyone know of a solo studio recording of Micky performing Riu Chiu?
I think Micky was misremembering. He has performed the song live on a couple of Christmas shows. I’m not aware of a solo studio version.
I think he meant "(I Prithee) Do Not Ask For Love" which was on the 'Remember' album. I seem to recall him saying it was like 40 takes of his layered vocals
It's Now - 4/5 How Do You Know - 4/5 This is a pretty good single in my opinion and Davy really sells both of these songs. I must be in the minority regarding How Do You Know because I honestly enjoy it as much as the a-side.
Just listened to it on YouTube, it has to be it. The vocals are as he describes very layered and full. Sorry to hijack the thread. I rate it a ........ have to wait.
