I never had two and three, but volume one, was one of my parents record back in the day, and it went a long way to making me a fan of Elton's. Great collection of songs

Songs like Burn Down The Mission, Take Me To Your Pilot, Friends, and Tiny Dancer are not on these comps (V I & II). Most of Elton's 70's album tracks are better than his actual hits I think. Vol III is a good representation of his 80's work though.

As you’ll know, the U.K. version replaces Bennie with Candle In The Wind. I prefer this, though don’t mind either really. I bought the U.K. DJM CD in August 1985. Amongst the first titles I purchased. I still have it too. Also picked up the newly remastered Japanese SHM-CD last year.

The Elton comp was one of those albums everyone seemed to have here in the 70s. Alongside The Carpenters 1969-1973 and ABBA’s Greatest Hits.:)

I was never enamored with 1, although I have multiple copies. For someone as big as Elton, I always felt that it did not honor his achievements as well as it could have.

I always wondered why "Border Song" was on there. Never considered that one a big hit. The relatively obscure "Friends" did get some airplay and would have been an interesting rarity for the collection.

I have a pet peeve about best of's leaving out hits and there are a number missing. Does he have a singles collection? He's one of the greatest singles artists in rock history (along with very good albums). I think he should have some kind of anthology release rounding up every hit.
