I just put this record on. Might as well give it a fresh rating while I listen. Hard to fault any of these songs. Each of them has something great going on.

I absolutely agree with you in theory. And part of the reason I dislike the song so much is it has absolutely nothing interesting to say about the subject, like Randy Newman would. That’s the problem. I’m not outraged over the subject, personally, but I cringe at how ham-fisted and moronic it is lyrically while being married to a pretty generic song/melody. There’s no insight. No critique or examination of the narrator. It’s just boring. If it weren’t the Beatles nobody would spend a minute declaring the merits of this mediocre work. In fact, placed on another record, or even sequenced somewhere else on this one I probably wouldn’t think twice arguing about how much I dislike it. I just think it’s a hilariously subpar finale. This from a band whose next two records would close with boundary pushing masterpieces. Part of Rubber Soul’s failing is the end takeaway is such dreck.

I didn't think it was worth mentioning. A lot of us on here don't listen to that kind of music for those exact reasons, so there's no double standard to argue against.
There is no pursuit. No one's actively going against John because of Run For Your Life, they're just stating that they dislike it for certain reasons when the topic of the song is brought up. No 'cancel Lennon' movement is being brought around because of this song.

 

Summarising all of our points as nothing but being PC is very closed-minded.
Maybe read the comments and you’ll understand where people are coming from. One person even mentioned how back then it was a difficult listen for them. People are affected by things differently, what’s so wrong about that?

 

What I find strange is how Girl seems to get some really mixed responses. I would’ve thought it was a Beatles classic to most people, along with Norwegian Wood, but I guess that’s just me.

I was talking about the Brit but I will admit a great deal of my disdain is based on the singles. Both mixes are horrible.

 

They are murky, even the mono.

I love "What Goes On" because it's like some sort of modern "alternative rockabilly" thing. The only thing wrong with it is that it sounds unfinished.
