I think the D/I water has 'most' of the minerals removed, which was the main issue as far as the LoC specialist was concerned. Obviously, there are different methods to demineralize, so we don't know exactly what process is being used in Scandinavia.
As you probably know, when you combine different methods of purification, you get higher purity, including death to bacteria™, etc.
I guess the LoC person's point was that you didn't have to go crazy if the particulate rate was low. If you read the web, you'll see people asking what to use in various medical devices requiring distilled water when traveling to places where it is hard to find.
    I'm not a chemist or materials scientist- i was a lawyer. :)
But, this has been an interest, and I'm always willing to learn.
I use the fancy stuff here, usually ordered from Fisher Scientific, but recently found another potential source, with a facility in Texas (where I live now) that is a fraction of the price and no apparent restrictions on shipping, which had been an issue with the Nerl-Casco Reagent Grade I.
PS: my suspicion is that the Packard Campus at the LOC probably has a water processing system set up so it is cheaper and easier for them to make the D/I water than to distill it themselves. I can't imagine them sending somebody to the supermarket. You should see that place-- it is like an audio/record collector/film collector geek heaven. I'd work there and I kind of swore off work a while ago....

The reverse osmosis water is pure enough, I don’t think you have to worry about this anymore as you probably have pure water for free.

By the way, Aqua Purificata isn’t that expensive in Sweden so if you have the chance to travel over the strait then go for an excursion to a Swedish pharmacy. You’ll get 5 liters for around 106 DKK.

My favorite is their #6 - one step - so much easier for me than their two step. I didn't notice any difference other than the pain of washing twice vs once.

Okki Nokki, AIVS #15, #6 and RO water. Soak and scrub with both #15 and #6. I use goat hair brushes for the scrub. Yes they can get nasty but the others bushes I've tried, MOFI, Disk Dr and Osage don't yield the same result.

I am currently testing #6 (one step) and #15 + pure water rinse (two steps) and do not find any difference either. However, I do not have really dirty records.

I use separate MOFI brushes with a VPI 16.5.

Thanks Gyro. I do visit your lovely country occasionally. So maybe I’ll have to go for at water run. :) I am planning to visit my local pharmacy. I might be wrong about the prices. One can only hope.

luckybaer: glad to hear it. As of now I am leaning towards that particular RCM. :)

I am getting a lot great information. Thanks.

Yeah - and that is the point - the 15 is for the crazy dirty records. #6 for everything else.

The water company in my town said that we have the best tap water in the country and even in Europe.

Their up-to-date Water Analysis Bulletin :
    Ph ----------------------------7.5
    Free residual chlorine -----0.11 mg/l
    Ammonium -----------------0.011 mg/l
    Azottide --------------------<0.006 mg/l
    Lead ------------------------<0.5 μg/l

I tested myself and I discover my tap water is very pure (36 ppm) and has a very good taste. If I use a water filtration cup like Brita, the chlorine is filtered.

Anybody who owns a dehumidifier should have all the distilled water they need. If you're picky, filter it through some cheese cloth.
